TERESA LAIZ presents her recent record work as a castanets soloist, “Repicando el Alma” (Knocking Heart).
Although her artistic career essentially began through Flamenco dancing, at the present time Teresa Laiz
directs her path towards the Concert Castanets world, where these ones are not a simple tool in dancing
anymore, but they become a soloist musical instrument. Castanets, we could say, is the most typical spanish
musical instrument, however, it is a highly unknown as a soloist instrument. La Argentina, Lucero Tena,
Emma Maleras, José de Udaeta and some few others are who raised this instrument to a higher musical
category, leaving dancing aside. It is specially with Emma Maleras and José de Udaeta when castanets not
only accompany spanish music but also classical music.
Teresa Laiz goes even further, classical music, spanish classical music, flamenco, tap-dance (“zapateado”)
with castanets, jazz, brazilian music, opera, etc. “Freedom has an essential importance, everything in Art is
justifiable if it is beautiful”. Teresa Laiz scores her own castanets texts for pieces of all kind of music, as long
as it contributes to or expresses something new. One of her great virtues and identifying mark when playing
castanets in a live concert, besides her virtuosity and the light touches of dancing, is her capacity of
expression, of transmiting emotions, her way of reaching the audience. If we had to define her concerts with
some words they would be: feeling, virtuosity, expression, strength, energy, delicacy, elegance and beauty.

TECHNICAL AND ECONOMICAL CONDITIONS
A) Teresa Laiz (alone)
The show is done with the orchestra instrumental bases recorded in a cd.
The length of the show is around one hour and a quarter with ten minutes break between the two parts. The
show can be adapted to other necessities.
Technical conditions will be according to the dimension of the room.
For a small place or auditorium with a good acoustic it will not be necessary to amplify the castanets.
- It will be necessary a hi-fi to play the cd bases with suitable speakers for the space.
- In case of ampliffying the castanets, it will be necessary two miniature wireless microphones for my wrists,
or three standing microphones or surrounding microphones.
- Sound and lighting technician during the show.
- An area near the stage to be used as a dressing room.
- The stage floor should be made on wood to be able to appreciate the tap-dancing and set up some contact
microphones.
- Lighting equipment suitable for the room.
• A concert fee is ________ € + Taxes (sound and lighting means, flights and transport, hotels and
subsistence allowance will be paid separately).

B) Teresa Laiz Ensemble
The show is carried out with a minimun of ten professional musicians, being possible to be increased up to a
big orchestra, depending on the repertoire and economical means.
The Ensemble would be include at least castanets, piano, guitar, first violin, second violin, viola, cello, double
bass, flute, clarinet, horn and trombone.
The length of the show is around one hour and a quarter with ten minutes break between the two parts. The
show can be adapted to other necessities.

or three standing microphones or surrounding microphones.
- Sound and lighting technician during the show.
- An area near the stage to be used as a dressing room.

- One chair and a music stand needed for each musician.
- Teresa Laiz can be accompanied by her Ensemble of nine musicians or musicians can be contracted from the
visiting country:

• The “Teresa Laiz Ensemble” fees (9 spanish musicians apart from her) is __________ € + Taxes (sound

• If musicians are contracted in the visiting country, the organization will take charge of the corresponding
contracts and procedure.

REPERTOIRE
Usually, in a one hour concert the number of pieces is around 15 with a varied repertoire: classical music,
spanish, flamenco, tango, brazilian, etc. with light touches of dancing and “zapateado” (tap-dancing). The
repertoire can be changed according to the occasion, for example a whole concert of classical music, or only
spanish music, etc.

ARTISTIC CURRICULUM
TERESA LAIZ
Teresa Laiz, born in Madrid (1966), starts her artistic training when she was 6 years old learning Classical
Ballet and then she studied Flamenco, Spanish Classical Dancing, Traditional and Popular Dancing, S.XVIII
Dancing, Ballroom, Contemporary Dancing, Country, Oriental Dancing and Theatre. She received classes
from great artist as Ana Mercedes, Victor Ullate, Gloria and Rafael de Córdova, Candela Soto, Raquel
Quijano, Meritxell Cardellach, La Tani, El Farruquito, José de Udaeta, José Luis Landry, Belén Cabanes, Juan
Carlos Lérida, Olga Cobos and Belén Maya; shares stage with artists as Adrian Galia and has got renowned
students as the Baroness Thyssen. She also studied Solfa, Castanets, Piano and Flamenco Percussion, has
being a member of the Complutense University Chorus, model in "Broadway, Models & Artists" agency and
for the catalan artistic painter Ramón Gutiérrez. Paralell to her artistic training, she has got an English Filology
degree from the Complutense University in Madrid (1984/85-1988/89), where afterwards worked as a teacher
during several years as well as in the Turism School of the Girona University. She has also studied a Staff
Management Master, the Doctorate courses and has got the researching competence title.
Her professional experience has been centred mainly in Spanish and Flamenco dance; she has been part of
different groups: Grupo de Danza Española "Contrastes", Ballet Español de "Irene Zambra" (Avila), Cuadro
Flamenco de "Paco de Málaga", Cuarteto Flamenco del "Alonso Cano", Compañía Flamenca “Rosa Mª
Maya”, Ballet Español "Danza y Tronío", "Grupo Universitario de Danza Española", "Andalucía Baila en
Verso”, Compañía "Rumbo Flamenco", “Terrània Dansa” y Grupo de Baile “SET Flamenco”; she also takes
part in a great number of shows in Cultural Centres in Madrid (Luchana, Junta Municipal de Vicálvaro,
Vallecas, Cultural Association L.Boccherini and Casa de la Cultura de Boadilla del Monte, El Escorial, El
Pardo, Alcalá de Henares, etc.), in public festivities in Avila and Madrid (Navalperal, Piedrahita, Hoyo de
Manzanares, Alpedrete, Colmenar Viejo, Arganda del Rey, Moralzarzal, Zarzalejo, etc.), also in different

As a teacher, she has taught Classical Ballet, Spanish Dance, Ball Room Dance and Flamenco since 1987, in

organizing courses and private classes for children and adults and preparing final course festivals with her own
coreografies.
At present, she manages l’Espai de Dansa i Cultura placed in the Casino La Constància (1 er piso) in St. Feliu
de Guíxols where, she also teaches Flamenco, Spanish Classical Dance, Classical Ballet, Creative Dance, Ball
Room, Latin Dance and Castanets, and produces dance shows and concerts, lectures and other cultural
activities. She teaches Flamenco in Hapimag Mas Nou de Platja d’Aro and Ballet and Flamenco in Els Estanys
School in Platja d’Aro. She manages the Grupo de Baile “SET Flamenco” and she also makes coreografies for
others. Now, she is a member of the trio La Castañuela Loca together with the violinist Lea Shalom and the
singer and guitarrist Pedro Burruezo, where the strenght of the voice, the sketches of dance and the delicate
and expressive musical instruments (violín y castañuelas) join in perfect armony giving as a result a deep and
original show. Recently, she has published her first record as a Castanets soloist, “Repicando el Alma”, a
project that she is promoting at this moment.
