That‘s how a Held glove is made.<br />
Lets show you how an authentic Held glove is manufactured.<br />

Punching<br />
Before processing, the leather is soaked so that it can<br />
be stretched lengthways for cutting. That´s because<br />
the gloves can later only be stretched breadthways.<br />
The punching machine now punches out the individual<br />
parts. Later two back-to-front parts will be sewn<br />
together. An individual hide is rarely completely perfect.<br />
Faulty sections (damaged by thorns, barbed wire or<br />
ticks) are rejected.<br />
Punching pattern<br />
One pair of ‘Phantom’ racing gloves consist of 156<br />
component parts. Punching lasts around 18 minutes.<br />
Real Held gloves go through fi re<br />
Punched-out carbon panels are heated in<br />
the oven to 450°C. After 1 minute, the<br />
carbon becomes soft and can be reshaped.<br />
The carbon panel is then placed under a<br />
40-ton press to give it its fi nal form. This is<br />
the carbon knuckle-protector which will<br />
eventually be built into the back of a glove.<br />
Stitching and assembling<br />
90 minutes of sewing time are needed to complete<br />
a pair of gloves.<br />
Specially trained staff stitch the component parts with<br />
the specifi c Held developed seams. This procedure<br />
is only possible with a very strong special sewing<br />
machines; many needles are destroyed sewing hard<br />
knuckle protectors to the glove!<br />
Test the Best<br />
Finally all <strong>HELD</strong> gloves are carefully formed on<br />
hot metal irons. Once this operation is complete,<br />
each glove is checked for faults in material and<br />
workmanship.<br />

the ‘fi nger bridge’<br />
When riders fall, dislocation of the little fi nger<br />
is one of the more common injuries. In view of<br />
this, we have decided to incorporate a „fi nger<br />
bridge“ which links the little and ring fi ngers.<br />
This bridge is reinforced with Kevlar ® with<br />
a ceramic polymer matrix coating.<br />

The Challenge<br />
Motorcyclists demand a lot from their bodies, and especially from their<br />
hands. A biker’s hands have to steer, clutch, brake and simultaneously give<br />
the engine exactly the right amount of throttle. That’s why good motorcycle<br />
gloves must satisfy rigorous requirements. They must protect the biker from<br />
injuries and damage to the joints. They must remain lastingly breathable in<br />
the summer and watertight in the rain. And they must be very comfortable<br />
to wear. But until now, a glove that could satisfy all of these criteria always<br />
posed another problem: it signifi cantly reduced a biker’s feel for the motorcycle.<br />
Now Gore has found a way to solve this problem. The solution is<br />
called ‘X-TRAFIT product technology’.<br />
The Innovation<br />
Many watertight motorcycle gloves are made of four layers: a sturdy outer<br />
material; an insulating layer; a watertight layer and a lining material. The<br />
robust new membrane used in the X-TRAFIT product technology makes<br />
it possible to eliminate two layers. Furthermore, all remaining layers are<br />
laminated to one another using a special three-dimensional process. Gore<br />
developed a new thermal adhesive with a netlike structure so that it doesn’t<br />
reduce the glove’s breathability. These gloves achieve unprecedented<br />
excellence in fi t, comfort and toughness. Motorcyclists feel as though<br />
they’re wearing single-layer gloves that could easily grasp even the smallest<br />
objects. This ensures excellent levels of tactility and ergonomic comfort. Put<br />
those two together and you get perfect control over your bike – in every<br />
