HANSHI SPEAKS 

I want 

to thank everyone who attended the 

2005 annual NCMA Family Tournament 

and Banquet in Springfield MO. It was 

smaller than usual but everyone enjoyed the 

competition and the banquet at Mr. Yen’s. For 

the 2006 tournament active school charter 

members can invite a non member dojo 

to compete on a one year only basis. 

This will give them some insight about 

the NCMA’s sportsmanship and 

fellowship in the martial 

arts, no matter what style 

or system they are in. 

I was proud to serve 

on the Jeff Speakman’s 

Kenpo Karate promotional 

board as the only senior 

man to oversee the test. This 

was held in Las Vegas at Jeff 

Speakman’s annual training 

camp. Mr. Speakman and myself 

have a relationship that spans 27 

years. The respect and friendship 

shown by the Kenpo students to me 

was outstanding. 

Our new website is improving rapidly, Tony Angel has been 

working hard on it, and now has it up and running. The website 

has a public viewing side and a active member only viewing side. 

You must be an active member to be approved for the site. 

I look forward to seeing you all again at the 2006 Tournament 

and Banquet, until then stay well and successful in your endeavors.

LETTERS TO HANSHI 

The 16th annual National College of Martial 

Arts 2005 tournament was held at the 

Springfield, MO Stalnaker Boys and Girls 

Club, 11th June. 

Approximately one hundred competitors 

participated in the tournament. Members 

traveled from Arkansas, California, Georgia, 

Kansas, Oklahoma , Missouri, as well 

as the country of Austria, Europe ie. Mr. 

Herbert Brunoro. 

As tournament director, I would like to 

extend my appreciation to all who contributed 

and worked so hard: Ring managers, 

Monty Atchley, Truman Briggs, Johnny 

Coil, David Jenkins, Allan McKelvy and 

Kevin Morris. Job well done! 

Alan Daniels undertook the task of coordinating 

the ring divisions. Job well done! 

Without the support of others, such as Anthony 

Williams and Troy Todd the tournament 

would not have been such a success! 

As the NCMA Tournament Director, I appreciate 

the loyal support of all participants 

and instructors, such as Tom Kelly, 

Dan Hirsch, Glen Logan, Mickey Brock 

and Robert Mallin. 

There is not enough space or time to acknowledge 

the tremendous support by 

everyone, but thank you to all who contributed!

Thank you so much for the opportunity to 

once again compete in the NCMA Tournament. 

It is always such a great honor to be 

in the company of such really good martial 

artist and have the chance to match 

our various styles against one another and 

have no hard feelings when we get beaten 

by someone much better. 

Also want to say thank you to all the distinguished 

gentleman who sat on my student, 

Beverly Sampson’s Ni-Dan test. We 

would like to video her actual test for you 

and send it to you so you can see for yourself 

what a hard test she took for her Sho- 

Dan and will take for her Ni-Dan in December 

of this year. 

We had a great experience again as always 

! 

Sensei Duff did a great job organizing the 

tournament and everyone worked together 

to make it run smoothly. 

I am already looking forward to next 

years so I can compete “one last time”

Thanks again for hosting such a wonderful 

tournament. I know a lot of work goes on 

behind the scenes by many of your faithful 

people, but you are the reason they 

contribute so much of themselves. It is 

always good to be able to come to Joplin 

or Springfield and be surrounded by such 

a warm and supportive group of karateka 

Our group had a wonderful time as always. 

We are very fortunate to have someone 

such as yourself who is dedicated to 

preserving the true spirit of the arts. Your 

teachers are smiling down on you I'm sure 

for your contributions to this everchanging 

world of karate. Please make 

sure that all of your people know that Sensei 

Mallin and I are forever grateful for 

your hospitality, concern, and your caring 

ways. The N.C.M.A. is truly a family in 

every sense of the word. We look forward 

to many many more reunions with many 

more family members present each year.

Thank you for the great times we all had 

at tournament. All of us are still excited 

by the great learning experience we have 

had and the great friendships that were 

forged. The banquet was great fun in a 

very fitting and nice atmosphere. The food 

was excellent. It is great how the NCMA 

pulls together as a family. It is true many 

styles can coexist in one place at one time 

as a family. Thank you for taking me into 

the depths of the scared texts and when I 

became lost bringing me back from the 

darkness so I could grasp and learn from 

what I have experienced. Thank you for 

allowing me the opportunity to experience 

this year what most people never experience 

in a life time. I wish that everyone 

could experience and realize the importance 

of the Grandmaster's touch.

I just wanted to thank you again for all 

your help and support. The 2005 “Main 

Event” was outstanding! The promotion 

board, seminars, tournament and banquet 

were all great. We were glad to see old 

friends and make new ones. 

It doesn’t seem like it has been 15 years 

since we attended our first NCMA Tournament, 

but as Troy and I watched our 

younger students compete I realized how 

far we’ve come. Thank you Hanshi for

Dear NCMA Charters Members: 

In an effort to better promote the NCMA and the value of our organization. Hanshi 

Angel is going to initiate an Invitational policy for the 2006 NCMA Tournament and 

Banquet. Charter members will be encouraged to invite non-member schools to attend 

on a one (1) year basis with no obligation to join the NCMA. Of course, they will be 

expected to follow our rules of etiquette and good sportsmanship. 

This will accomplish two things. First, it will better insure a strong tournament with 

more competitors in each division. This is most important to schools traveling a long 

distance in hopes of having a division for each of their students. Second, it will pro- 

vide us an opportunity to grow our organization to insure we will be around for our 

members in the years to come. 

All of the criteria for receiving an invitation have not been decided, however there are 

a couple of general rules that should be followed. 

1. The non-member school must be recommended by an active 

NCMA charter school. 

2. There should be evidence that they are interested in joining our 

martial arts organization. 

3. Invitation will be given to non-member schools for one year only. 

4. Hanshi Angel must receive a brief letter of introduction which will 

include the head instructor or owner, location, style and number 

of active students. A standard form will be created for this and 

will be available from headquarters and on the web site. 

5. The final decision to extend an invitation to participate will be 

made by Hanshi Angel. 

Please give this some consideration and let Hanshi know your thoughts.
