NCMA to sponsor first ever Internet Karate Tournament.
Lou Angel’s Midwest Forms Championship
Hanshi Angel is starting 2011 with something new and innovative, a karate forms tournament open
to any martial artist in the world. Simply record yourself doing your best kata and submit it via
YouTube in order to compete with other martial artists around the world. Hanshi Angel and five
other masters of various styles will view the videos and choose first, second and third place winners
in all divisions. The divisions will be divided by Traditional, Non-Traditional, Weapons, as
well as age and rank. Start practicing your form, get it recorded, and go to formschampionship.com
to submit it and check out the competition. At a cost of only $25, this is a bargain. You
will not have travel, lodging and other out of pocket expenses! The first three places in all divisions
will be awarded medals and certificates signed and sealed by Hanshi Angel. The winners in
each division will have the option to receive their awards at the annual NCMA Invitational Tournament
in Springfield, Missouri in June, or have them mailed to them.
Don't wait check out www.formschampionship.com

HANSHI SPEAKS
Greetings in this new year 2011. Exciting events are
scheduled for this year.
The NCMA will sponsor the first Midwest Kata Championship
where you compete by video. We believe this
to be the first time this has been done. Some of the
benefits are lower cost, by eliminating travel, lodging
and meals expense, performing your kata at your
home dojo and the ability to reshoot until you
are satisfied with your performance.
Our annual NCMA Family Tournament
is set for Saturday June
25th in Springfield, MO at the
Boys and Girls Club gym.
On Friday night June 24th there
will be a free seminar, for
NCMA members on Brazilian
Jujitsu the seminar will be given
by an honorary NCMA member
Fernando Maccachero, from Brazil
and currently teaching in Webb
City MO. Don’t miss this one!
Also for the first time we will have a
Kata Grand Champion for the young
adults. If this goes over good we will add
a kyu rank Grand Champion in the future.
The NCMA is striving to make our
annual tournament better and better.
By popular demand Jim Jeffries will be doing the cooking at the NCMA picnic
if you remember when he cooked the food was great!
Hanshi Angel

LETTERS TO HANSHI
Hanshi Angel,
I studied under you in 1969 and 1970 at your dojo on Peoria in Tulsa. I became one of the Goju
instructors at the University of Tulsa after you started that class which I believe was one of, if
not the first university classes offering credit for Karate in the United States. I spent 3 years in
the Army and studied Tai Kwon Do for a brief period and upon discharge again took up Goju in
Tulsa. I was sorry that you were no longer there. What I learned under you (patience, diligence,
respect, self discipline) has remained with me throughout the years, and I just wanted
to thank you for what you have taught me. I'm a better person for having known you.
Mike Phillips
Hello Master Angel ,
Thank you for everything that you have done for everyone in our World of Martial Arts ..!
Even if we are not a very big school you still showed us your support , and that means the
world to me , well to all of us ...!
Thank you again ,
Angela Stevens , secretary / manager
" The Goju Academy of Sapulpa "
918-637-0036
Things are going real well Hanshi.I have been training 4 and 5 times a week very hard.I have a
high degree of respect for how you pioneered Goju Ryu in the United States.I am still plann on
training at your hombu Dojo, but have had to postpone the date.
In Budo,
Mike Galose
Hanshi
Thank you for your service in the military, And for what you have done for all of us who have
devoted our lives to GOJU-RYU. I honor you Grand Master
Oss
Steven M.Barnett

LETTERS CONTINUED
Hanshi
I am extremely proud to be under you and the NCMA, our Goju Ryu is very effective. I am very impressed with
the speed power and accuracy of the hand techniques on the DVD! It is good to see that shutos, backhands, and
elbows are emphasized in Tenshi Goju. That is exactly what Higaonna and Kuba Sensei emphasized in their seminars
I attended when I was in Okinawa last year. Unfortunately, a lot of groups are now teaching Goju Kai more as
a sport, than a true martial art. Thank you for all you have done for me.
Your Student,
Mike Galose
Hanshi,
Happy Thanksgiving to you, your family and the NCMA family. Y'all are in my daily prayers always. THANKX
for always being there for me. I truly appreciate your friendship, mentorship and love.
just know that you and my NCMA membership are very important to me.
Love and respect,
James kovacich
Thank you again Mr Angel, I started training in the arts at 12 years of age and it was to defend myself. Through the
years training became so much more. Exercise, self control, motivation and so much more. A way of life
Thank you again. You are an inspiration to all
Sean Hawkins
Hanshi,
Greetings from Okinawa. I am glad to be here in the birthplace of karate-do.
I already feel my training starting to take a special turn for the better, just by being here.
Hope all is well with you and I am sorry I will not be able to make this years family get-together/tournament...
I will never forget the day that Dr. Atchley introduced me to you, I was a 17 year old punk who had only been taking
Kempo for a few months...after meeting you, I knew I wanted to be like you...humble, respected, and most
importantly, devoted to the martial arts.
Now I am 33, and still working on all of those traits that I saw as your strengths.
Thank you.
Ryan Page, United Kempo and Gung-fu Academies (Ginowan-city Okinawa)"
