Notes:
The shipyard usually follows its own instructions with regard to the division and sequence of
installation procedures. The purpose of this manual is to facilitate the installation process carried out by
the shipyard. BOHAMET does not give any warranty with respect to installation
performed by other companies using this manual.
I . General comments:
1. The so-called “clear opening” of the coaming BxH, subject to IT-16 tolerance, represents
the functional size of the door.
2. BOHAMET accepts claims concerning incorrect door dimensions only before the door is
installed – welded in the wall.
II. Before the installation:
1. Move the door on the pallet to the installation site using a crane.
2. First of all, ensure that the ship’s side opening dimensions comply with documentation for
the particular door.
3. If there is no opening in the ship’s side, follow steps 4 and 5 below.
4. Mark the opening dimensions (in accordance with the diagram), maintaining the IT-14
accuracy.
5. Cut out the opening acc. the marking, check the opening dimensions again, taking into
account the +2 mm tolerance. Grind cutting-out surfaces with elastic grinding discs to
remove burrs resulting from flame-cutting.
6. Check the cut-out edges for rectilinearity and the door wall surface for flatness. Check the
coaming for flatness using a string according to the drawing below. The maximum
admissible spacing between intersecting pieces of string must not exceed 2 mm.
7. Disassemble the door by removing the hinge pins. DO NOT REMOVE THE PINS
MARKED AS “PIN COMPLETE”. Remember the number of washers in each hinge – this
will facilitate correct re-assembly.
III. Mounting the door frame in the wall.
Put the coaming over the opening in the wall. Use wedges or spacers to ensure correct
installation.
1. Move the door frame to the cut-out opening and check whether it fits tight along the
perimeter. The gap between the superstructure walls and the door coaming should not
exceed 2 mm.
If the gaps are greater, straighten the wall again.
2. Weld the door frame in the wall in accordance with the diagram and starting from the
outside. 20 mm long tack welds must be made in the order specified in the drawing,
maintaining a distance of 200 mm. When the tack welds are completed, check the
flatness (acc. II.6) and the clear opening of the door frame again. Final welds
(70 to 100 mm long) must be made in the order specified in the drawing until achieving a
continuous weld along the whole door frame. The number of tack welds and final welds
depends on the size of the welded coamings.
In order to ensure that the coaming fits tight to the wall, use G-clamps every
300÷400 mm.
Once the tack welds are done check the flatness (acc. II.6) and the clear opening of the door
frame in accordance with the drawing below. The maximum admissible deviations for the
door frame’s clear opening amount to ±2 mm for each section measured.
IV. Door installation:
1. Place the door panel over the coaming. Mount all hinges, remember to place all washers.
Do not use too much force when placing hinge pins (in order to ensure correct alignment
of all hinge elements and appropriate door opening/closing).
2. Check whether the door fits tight – use chalk (chalk the head surface of the coaming
along its perimeter). Close and open the door, check if there are chalk marks on the
sealing along its perimeter.
3. The door pressure can be individually adjusted with the use of adjusting nuts on the hinge
pin.
