Population and Habitat Viability Assessment: Bearded Vulture (Gypaetus barbatus) ________________________________________________ elicited from a wide range of participants, crossing over departmental boundaries in order to establish a holistic and effective conservation culture within the organisation. Training Workshops: CBSG Southern Africa acts as a conduit between local conservationists and like-minded organisations, bringing to the region training in a range of tools and processes for more effective conservation. Training is provided in the application of the IUCN Red List criteria, VORTEX Modelling and Population Biology, Disease Risk Assessment and Workshop Design and Facilitation. Global Networking: CBSG Southern Africa is the secretariat of the Global Cheetah Forum (GCF) comprising more than 70 members from 14 range countries. The GCF supports and fosters the development of progressive, collaborative conservation partnerships and facilitates effective communication and information flow between cheetah conservationists worldwide. 65
Population and Habitat Viability Assessment: Bearded Vulture (Gypaetus barbatus) ________________________________________________ Appendix 5: The Endangered Wildlife Trust The Endangered Wildlife Trust (EWT) is a South-African-based non-governmental, non-profit, conservation organisation, founded in 1973 to conserve threatened species and ecosystems in southern Africa, for the benefit of all the people of the sub-region. The EWT has a vision of individual and collective responsibility which transcends political ideologies and historical divisions of the past, and bestows a duty of care on all as custodians of our amazing natural wealth in the subcontinent. The EWT catalyses conservation outcomes through identifying priority conservation needs and establishing and facilitating dedicated multi-stakeholder Working Groups which: Initiate research and conservation action programmes; Implement projects which mitigate threats facing species survival; Develop and support sustainable natural resource management programmes across all stakeholder groups, from individual land-owners, to rural communities, to urban environments; Create environmental awareness, implement environmental education and build capacity for broader public environmental action; Strive to integrate environmental, social and economic imperatives within the context of achieving sustainable development; Advocate and communicate the principles of sustainable living through awareness programmes to the broadest possible constituency for the benefit of the region. The EWT operates uniquely, establishing dedicated Working Groups through which the mission and objectives of the Trust can be achieved. These Working Groups comprise the operational units of the organisation and are essentially self-managed programmes harnessing the talent and enthusiasm of a dynamic network of specialists and stakeholders in an area of conservation priority.
