Cottingham Rangers Under-13
A team win Drpool League
Championship.
The familiar blue and yellow kitís can be scen in abundance
on a Sunday morning, as one of the areas biggest and most
successful football cubs ‘go to work’.
Cottingham Rangers AFC founded in 1972 run football teams
from under 9 s, through to Menís leagues, and also Girlís teams.
One team from the club, the Under 13 - A team, have had a
superb season this year, winning the Under-13 Drypool League
Title, Simon Eccersley, team manager tells the story:
The team was set up back in 2003 with a bunch of lads from the
same school who just wanted to play football with their mates. My
son Ben was one of those five, and I took the role of team manager,
just so the team could continue. Over the years we have seen
players come and go, and we have always played in the same
league, usually finishing mid-table.
This season I knew, would be different. The side we had built
had all the necessary qualities right from the start. An outstanding
keeper, and some of the best defenders in any league. All my midfielders
are reliable and strong, and our two strikers formed an
unstoppable partnership.
The team consists of: Chris Banyard, Ben Eccersley, Sampson
Wright, Matty Hagyard(c), Connor Russell, Elliott Petterson, Sam
Healy, Gary Haskins, Mike Fee, James Laverick, Jonathan
Hagyard, Will Crisp, Lewis Drabarek, Ali Fulstow.
This season the statistics read: played 18, won 15, drawn 2,
lost 1. and Drypool League Champions 2006-7
I am delighted that the team will progress to the ‘Premiership’
that is the Myton league next season, and have no doubt that we
will hold our own, and maybe just maybe . . . . who knows?
The club’s annual tournament takes place on June 16th and
17th at Cottingham High School, for more information on the club
and itís teams, please visit our website at www.cottinghamrangers.co.uk
won the league.
