on this Run. The Run was much more
inclusive towards all driving styles,
allowing all participants to enjoy the
drive that is a major part of every club
Run. Neil tells me that there were still
a few points to be ironed out, but by
and large the changes are a success and
should encourage members who may
have waned off attending Runs due to
the previous rules back onto the club
Runs.

New Event: Introduction
to Track Days
This year we are introducing a new
event in the calendar. An introduction
to track days designed around those
who have never tried it and are curious.
After lots of informal feedback we
believe that many of you are interested
in a relaxed, non competitive and
educationally oriented introduction to
the idea of running your car on a track.
This is NOT a timed nor competitive
event. It is directed at the large number
of members, spouses, partners, friends,
significant others and insignificant
others who are curious about this track
thing, but are hesitant to take the first
leap. Track jockeys need not apply.
You will have far more track time at
our regular events.
I myself experienced the same
hesitancy a couple of years ago and
would have relished a low profile, non
competitive debut. I am sure some of
you feel the same. Even if you have no
intention of going to the next stage of
actual track days this will give you an
idea of what members, partners and
spouses are doing on these track days.
And you may even get the bug.
The 1/2 day session is BYO car. We will
cover three aspects: Classroom theory,
car knowledge, track knowledge. Each
step is explained gradually. We have
secured the services of highly regarded
instructor Doug Chapel (sic - Ed.),
along with our own Simon Harrex and
some other guest tutors.
The location will be Queensland
Raceway near Ipswich on June 8,
after midday. The cost is $90 for
members, $100 for non members, via
our web site http://www.bmwclubqld.
asn.au/#page=events. In addition, due
to regulations, you will need to get a
AASA day licence at the track (I will
provide forms in advance) but think of
that as a souvenir of the day proving
you are “track certified”!
If you have any questions let me
know, and I hope those who have
been quietly contemplating track days
take up the opportunity. It is the most
fun you can have in a car (now that
Drive-Ins are no longer with us ;-) )
