the day Christ Jesus returns. Phil.1:6 It is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope<br />

set before us may be greatly encouraged. We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and<br />

secure. Heb.6:18-19 But Christ is faithful as the Son over God's house. And we are his house, if indeed we<br />

hold firmly to our confidence and the hope in which we glory. Heb.3:6<br />

Sunday January 13 th <strong>2013</strong> Ps.138 Acts 13<br />

Will you serve God in our Generation?<br />

Now when David had served God's purpose in his own generation, he fell asleep. Acts13:36<br />

The greatest accolade we can ever receive is that we served God‘s purpose in our<br />

generation – that we completed the work God set out for us.<br />

Today‘s business management seems to be totally focused on efficiency – more for less;<br />

but God wants us to be effective, not necessarily efficient. God has always astounded<br />

people by over-ruling the ―natural laws‖ that He put into place. We call this a ―MIRACLE‖<br />

but actually it is only God being God! Elisha was used by God to show God‘s<br />

―MIRACLE‖ power many times including healing the sick, 2Kg.5:14 raising the dead 2Kg.4:32-36<br />

and pouring a little oil into lots of pots! 2Kg.4:1-7 God has the whole of creation at His<br />

disposal and can create anything out of nothing – including time – so He is not concerned<br />

about being efficient. What God is really interested in is something which cannot be<br />

valued - our life (that is, our eternal spirit: No man can pay for the life of anyone else. No one can<br />

give God what that would cost. The price for a life is very high. No payment is ever enough. Ps.49:7-8 We,<br />

who can truly call God ―our Father‖, have all His resources available to us – in fact: the<br />

Spirit of the One who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you. So the God who raised Christ from the<br />

dead will also give life to your bodies, which are going to die. He will do this by the power of his Spirit,<br />

who lives in you. Rom.8:11<br />

So how can we serve God's purpose in our own generation? To serve God’s<br />

purpose in our life means that we do what He wants us to do. The greatest call on<br />

our life is to ‗Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. Love him with all your<br />

mind.‘ (This is the first and most important commandment). Matt.22:37 The Westminster Shorter Catechism<br />

(1674) states that man‘s chief end in life is to glorify God and enjoy Him for ever. Nothing else is as<br />

important as loving God but this love is not just emotion – it is a commitment to<br />

believe God and to love, honour and obey Him at all times and in every situation.<br />

Believing God means that we trust Him and entrust ourselves to Him which then<br />

gives us contentment and peace: for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I<br />

know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being<br />

content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do<br />

all this through him who gives me strength. Phil.4:11-13 Yet true godliness with contentment is itself great<br />

wealth. After all, we brought nothing with us when we came into the world, and we can't take anything<br />

with us when we leave it. So if we have enough food and clothing, let us be content. 1Tim.6:6-8NLT At the end<br />

of Paul‘s life he was able to state: I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept<br />

the faith. Now there is a crown waiting for me. It is given to those who are right with God. The Lord, who<br />

judges fairly, will give it to me on the day he returns. He will not give it only to me. He will also give it to<br />

all those who are longing for him to return. 2Tim.4:7-8 But this trust (our faith) is not private but<br />

public – faith speaks: It is written: ―I believed; therefore I have spoken.‖ (Ps.116:10) Since we have that<br />

same spirit of faith, we also believe and therefore speak, because we know that the one who raised the Lord<br />

Jesus from the dead will also raise us with Jesus and present us with you to himself. 2Cor.4:13-14 Faith has<br />

lips as well as legs!
