the game. If the core gameplay is no fun or not interesting, you have a faulty<br />

product. Based on the early use of playtesting, it is possible to react on the<br />

feedback from the testers and possibly change the game for the better.<br />

Of course, it is not always pleasant to have someone point out the defects<br />

of a game. However, seeing or hearing players’ experience, even if they are<br />

negative, is valuable feedback. Playtesting improves the flow of the game<br />

and therefore the game becomes better.<br />

There are numerous ways to playtest. One thing that all playtesting methods<br />

have in common is the goal: to gain useful feedback from players in<br />

order to improve the product.<br />

Biography<br />

Andrea de Vries is currently a 2nd year<br />

student of Game Design and Development<br />

at the Utrecht School of the Arts.<br />

GDD teaches students to design and<br />

develop games. They are trained to<br />

work in a team and take on different<br />

roles like gamedesigner, programmer,<br />

modeller and animator. As game<br />

designers, students are also taught to<br />

critically think about games and the<br />

role of games and designers within the<br />

industry.<br />

Ewald Roodenrijs is a senior test manager<br />

and a member of the business<br />

development team within Sogeti<br />

Netherlands. As a member of the development<br />

team, he works on different<br />

test innovations like model-based testing,<br />

clouds, crowdtesting, testing augmented<br />

reality and using new media in<br />

testing. He’s also co-author of the book<br />

‘TMap NEXT® – BDTM’, a speaker at<br />

(international) conferences, an author<br />

of various national and international<br />

articles in expert magazines, and has<br />

created various training courses for<br />

test management purposes.<br />
