and support, including Dr Coventry’s role on the Berry
Street Board of Management. He has also provided
encouragement, advice and direct participation in
research, such as through the partners’ survey and
partnership meetings.
Mindful’s role in the Take Two participation is to lead and
support the training strategy and practice framework
development. Its participation has been represented
through the late Dr Howard Cooper, Dr Neil Coventry,
and more recently Dr Sandra Radovini. There has always
been a strong and mutually advantageous link between
research and training. We are thankful to Dr Radovini’s
interest and encouragement in the research strategy,
her participation, such as through the partner’s survey,
and her expressed interest for collaboration around
research in the future.
Each partner organisation has also contributed to the
research and evaluation strategy through the Take Two
Research Advisory Committee (T2RAC) such as through
the involvement of Prue Atkins and Ric Pawsey (Berry
Street), Dr Howard Cooper and Dr Sandra Radovini
(Mindful), Dr Neil Coventry (Austin), Dr Peter Lewis
(VACCA) and Professor Allan Borowski, Dr Patricia
McNamara and Dr Lloyd Owen (La Trobe University). The
T2RAC also had representatives from the Department
of Human Services, including Geoff Jende, Gerry Brown
and Tony Lunken, other universities, such as Dr Lynda
Campbell (The University of Melbourne), Professor Thea
Brown and Dr Brian Cooper (Monash University), and
Professor Jan Carter (University of Queensland and
Grif th University) and other consultants, including
Dr Peter Brann. The T2RAC provided advice and
commentary regarding the research strategy and
evaluation reports. It was chaired by Dr Howard Bath
(previously Director of Thomas Wright Institute and
currently Northern Territory’s Children’s Commissioner).
In addition to their participation in the T2RAC, we have
been grateful for the input, feedback, encouragement
and other contributions made by representatives from
DHS. During the time period covered in this report,
we have worked with Karen O’Neil, Gerry Brown,
Anne-Marie Thomas, Jeannie McIntyre, Tony Lunken
and Geoff Jende and have valued their collaborative
approach. Most recently, Tony Lunken has provided
helpful feedback, access to data and an interest in the
research agenda.
vi
Along with those already mentioned, we wish to thank
others who have been involved in various parts of
the evaluation methodology, such as members of the
research circles. These participants demonstrated
a genuine interest and provided ideas about how to
strengthen the interface between practice and research.
We also wish to acknowledge and thank some of
our international colleagues who have provided
direct feedback and general encouragement and
insight regarding the Take Two research and
evaluation strategy. In particular, we wish to thank
Emeritus Professor James Whittaker (University of
Washington, Seattle, Washington) and Dr Bruce D Perry
(ChildTrauma Academy, Houston, Texas).
Of course, there are those who did the groundwork for
this evaluation such as members of the research and
information management teams who directly contributed
through data collection, data entry and analysis. This
was the epitome of a team effort. Members of the
research team include Jenny Bartlett, Emma White,
Jane Harrison, Aisling Malone, Lindsay Barker, Margaret
Kascamanidis, Sally Vetch, Toby Köberle, Ndungi wa
Mungai, Sarah Waters, Jen McConachy, Naomi Ralph,
Nikki Worthington, Rucha Joshi and James Hutton.
Other members of the broader Knowledge Area and
administration who contributed to the report include
Jayne Dixon, Tracey Anderson, Dr Chris Tanti, Sean Pie
and Tenille Abell and at La Trobe University, Thelma
Williams. The team at SoPac Solutions led by Mick
Saddler assisted with some of the data analysis.
There are also those who contributed through analysis
and writing sections of the report. For example, Dr
Deborah Absler (private consultant) undertook the
analysis and draft writing of the section on research
circles in Chapter 12. Dr Nicole Milburn (Take Two),
George Habib (DHS) and Dr Alan Tucker (Clinical
Neuropsychologist, Victoria University) drafted sections
on infant mental health and the neuropsychology
projects in Chapter 3. Thank you also to all the children
and young people who provided drawings for use in this
report.
Finally, we thank all those who have read the previous
reports and provided encouragement, challenges and
insights for this and future research and evaluation.
They have highlighted the different readerships for
reports such as this and the associated opportunities
and responsibilities, some but not all of which have
been anticipated.
