Cabra Major Pennants team smash defending
champs
The 2010 Major Pennant season kicked off last Sunday with our boys meeting
the strong The Lakes GC team. Our team this year is:

In a tough match played in very wet conditions our guys went down 1.5—5.5
with wins coming from Mick Nagy 2 & 1 and Matt Smith squaring his match. The
old man of the team, Mark Ratajac had a great victory 2 & 1 playing reserve
Last Sunday, Cabra played the two time Major Pennants defending champs,
Moore Park, and smashed them 4.5—2.5. Wins on the day came from Mick Nagy 5
& 3, Andrius Belkus 1 up, Andrew marsh 3 & 2, Well done guys
Our next games are:
Vs Concord away on 21st Feb @ 7.00am
Vs The Lakes away on 28th Feb @ 7.00am
Vs Concord @ home on 7th March @ 7.00am
Vs Moore Park away on 14th March @ 7.30 am

From the GM
This year we are fielding an “all girl, all Cabramatta” Encourage Shield team.
Congratulations to Sara Walker, Katie Walker, Madeline Woodley, Bella Woodley,
Alicia Ingram, Brianna Murphy.
Members will have noticed the improvements to left hand side of the 11 th
fairway. Apart from it being a lot tidier, it now will provide a kikuyu nursery for
future course renovations.
It is great to report from our new offices, they are a lot more presentable and
a lot more user friendly.
Members should take interest in the monthly accounts that are presented
outside the office after each Board Meeting, they are displayed for complete
transparency.
Accounts presented as of 31 st December 2009 indicate an increase in YTD
bar sales of $154,907. Poker Machine net profit is up $83,128 YTD. These trad-
ing figures indicate a huge turnaround from our trade figures December 2007.
Welcome to our new members who have joined in January and February, it is
very healthy for our Club to be attracting such numbers.
The Pro Shop staff have requested that I mention that players are continuing
to turn up late for their allotted tee time. To save being transferred to the end of
the comp., please make the effort to be on time.
Please take note that our course will be closed on Saturday 7 th August and
Sunday 8 th August due to NSW Golf Assoc. using our course for the NSW
Mixed Foursome Championships.

From the Captain
11th Fairway
The area left of the 11th fairway, when established, is going to be nursery fairway. It will be in as a hazard
as it was before. The mounds have been reduced and they will be in play as rough. We have made the
decision to create this nursery as when we buy in grass we only get the leaf and we need to dress the soil
when we do repairs, this will then enable us to use our own soil with the transported grass. The area will
be Ground under Repair for the time being.
NSWGA Events
We have been allocated the division 3 Pennants final in 2010.Tthis final will take place in early April.
We have also been selected to host the NSW Mixed Foursomes championship for 2010. This tournament
will be staged over 36 holes on the weekend 7-8 August> Consequently there will be no morning tee
times on the Saturday and Sunday, times will be available from 11.30am, more info to come.
Pennants
The mixed team started their season with a close loss to Balgowlah at Balgowlah. The draw for the super
seniors is out, teams need to be selected, if you are over 65 please see Noel Williams. The Girls encourage
shield team the first for our club starts on the 7th Feb. Our major team have had one loss and a great
win against Moore Park on Sunday.
Tee times
Members please note it is a requirement to report to the starter 12 mins before your tee time. we are taking
close to 5 hrs to get around this golf course the morning guys are complaining of a slow groups this
compounds through the field so later players are always behind the clock. Late arrivals could result in
missed tee times or refusal to play on the day.
Score Update
Could all players please ensure you enter you score for the day in the PC adjacent to the Office.
Please do this before submitting you card in the box.

29th March
If you missed the last one don't miss this one, an excellent
opportunity exists for golfers looking to update
their existing golf equipment.
Monday 29th March from 2.00pm the back nine will
be closed for club fitting, this is the day to book in
and see the best of Titleist, Cobra, Ping and Taylor
Made clubs. Fittings start from 2.00pm, 30 minute
time slot so ring the proshop or email dowdysgolf@bigpond.com
to secure your place on this exciting
day. Bookings essential!
Our Junior Pennant side that represented Cabramatta
with pride, needs a special mention, an exceptional
effort from all the boys, two years in a row, Runners
Up.
This result was disappointing for the boys who gave
their all, to be pipped again on the post. The boys
should be proud and honoured that their effort has
not been matched by any other sides.
Congratulations to Andrius Belkus for being selected
in the State Junior Team 2 years in a row. Well done,
may you continue achieving great results.

Our ‘Oasis in the
West’ is looking
quite well at present
with the warmer
summer temperatures
quickly approaching.
With this
being a very stressful
period for our
putting surfaces,
survival is the key.
Unfortunately this
means that our
greens shall be a little
softer than normal
when these high
temperatures are
about.
Our11th Hole has
just gone through a
remodeling phase
with the old stock
pile area being removed
and returfed.
The mounds have
been pushed slightly
left and are not as
dramatic. This area
to the left of the
mounds shall be in
play for golfers and
shall double as a
.

Our Nursery Green
located behind the
maintenance shed is
coming along very
well and is nearly at
a stage to be mown
with our triplex
greens mower. It is
really satisfying to
see this area back in
an aesthetically
pleasing state.
It is pleasing to say
that we have employed
a new Apprentice
to our
team. Matthew
Martin has joined us
and is looking forward
to completing
his time with our
great club.
Current works in
progress are improvements
to our
gardens around the
golf course which
have unfortunately
been let slip a little
due to the high
growth rate and prioritizing
of projects.
Another issue that
you shall see an improvement
in during
the coming weeks is
the development and
instigation of a Paspalum
eradication
program.

2010 Mixed Pennants
Our 2010 Mixed Pennants team has opened up the year with a win and a loss.
Our Team for 2010 is :
Wayne Park and Michelle Dunn
Mark Butterworth and Monica Chester
Mick McCormick and Colleen McNeill

Steve Umperly and Debbie Carrier
Charles Davis and Vi David
Our opening game was against Balgowlah GC on the 17th Jan on a very tight 9 hole
course . Unfortunately we were beaten 3/2 on the day but I was not disappointed
with the result as there where some great performances in very trying conditions.
Winners on the day were:
Steve and Debbie - 8/6
Mick and Colleen - 1 up
Charles and Vi - Square
Our 2nd game was against Bankstown on the 24th Jan at Cabra where we had a
great win 3/2. This was largely thanks to 2 great birdie putts from Wayne Park on
the 17th and 18th to win their match 1 up. At this stage we down in match wins but
winning the two last holes saw us get up. Winners on the day were:
Wayne and Michelle - 1up
Mark and Monica - 6/5
Mick and Colleen - square
Steve and Debbie — square (after being 3 down all day, a great effort).
Charles and Vi won— 2 up
Our 3rd game was against Bankstown at Bankstown GC and resulted in a great 3 &2
win in very wet conditions. Winners on the day were: Brian & Edna 1up, Steve and
Debbie 2up, Mick and Monica 3&2. Our next game is against Balgowlah next Sunday
and a win should see us win our division.

2010 Lone Wolf
The 2010 Lone Wolf competition has reached the semi final stage with 4 A
graders contending for the honor of the “ LONE WOLF”
This Saturday will see Marty Barbon (off 7) play Gary Glenday (off 6) and
Mick Nagy (off 1) play Andrew Marsh (off3)

2010 Junior Pennants
Continuing the great results our Junior Pennant team has had in this competition,
we again, for the second year in a row reached the final .
Unfortunately we were unable to get across the line with the boys going down
3.5—1.5 to a very strong Bonnie Doon GC.
Winner on the day was Owen Woodley 4&3 with Peter Stojanovski halving his
match
We can all be proud of the way these guys have represented our club both on and
off the course.
Special mention to Andrius Belkus for again making the NSW Junior Squad. Well

From The Associate President
2009 presentation night finished our year with a bang. The night was exciting, with everyone celebrating
the success of all the winners throughout the year.
With the theme being B or Blue we had some fantastic costumes. Babies, Brides, Bananas in pj’s,
Blondes, Buckaroos, Boxers, Betty boop, Butterflies, Ball Boys, Bollywood, Bond, Beer wenches, Batman,
Belly dancers, Bikers and many more.
But best by far were Betty and Barney Rubble, winning best dresses.
Well done to all.
Congratulations go to our Club Champion Leanne Thompson.
I think we can all agree that the night was enjoyable for all.

Starting 2010 on March 11 th we are holding a charity day. We are raising money for one of our local
schools, Les Powel. This is the school that you can see from our 4 th tee. It is a school for children with
many different disabilities. Funding is always limited and any help is greatly appreciated. If you are interested
donating prizes or sponsoring a hole please contact Paula Murray or myself Debbie Carrier.
For the first time we now have an all girls Encourage Shield team.
The team members are Madeline Woodley, Bella Woodley, Brianna Murphy, Sarah Walker, Katie Walker,
and Alisa Ingram.
