CABRAMATTA GOLF CLUB LIMITED ANNUAL REPORT 2012 ABN 75 000 060 355 CABRAMATTA GOLF CLUB LIMITED ANNUAL REPORT 2012
ABN 75 000 060 355
President’s Report
On behalf of the Board of Directors of Cabramatta Golf Club Limited, I have pleasure in
presenting the Annual Report and Balance Sheet for the year ending 31st March 2012
I would like to thank the Committee, Billy Basan and the staff, their efforts in helping the club
again make a healthy profit is much appreciated. If it were not for the very wet year, it would
have been a lot better. There are a lot of Golf Clubs who are really struggling so I thank you
all.
We have poker at the club every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights, without
these nights we would have been struggling to make the profit we did make.
Bellissimo’s Restaurant is still doing well, drawing big crowds to the club. Mothers day this
year was again very popular with the patrons, with both lunch and dinner full houses.
After nineteen years of writing hard luck stories about the Major Pennants, I can finally write
how well they did. Congratulations to the team on winning the Division 2 Competition, at
Moore Park, beating Wakehurst. I would like to thank Mick Nagy for asking me to caddy for
him this year, it was good to watch him go through the competition undefeated.
I would like to congratulate all our Cabramatta representative teams this past year. B & C
grades’ both made it to the finals, both going down. The Super Seniors on winning their
division, however losing to the Lakes at Castle Hill in the quarter finals. The Master Pennants
winning their division last year. Also congratulations to the Encourage Shield, Juniors, Eric
Apperly and Mixed sides for their efforts. The players selected are to be congratulated and
thanked for their efforts and the manner that they conducted themselves while representing
the club. Thanks also to all the caddies and supporters for turning up each week.
On another note, one of our long standing members, Wayne Park has reached a mile stone
here at Cabramatta Golf Club representing in the following pennants (as age permitted).
Wayne represented Cabra in Encourage Shield, Junior Pennants, Eric Apperly Shield, Major
Pennants, Mixed Pennants and this year has lined up for the Masters and playing well.
Congratulation Wayne and thank you for your dedication to our great club.
Congratulations Andrius Belkus for winning the Club Stroke championships and to the other
major event winners.
What can you say about the efforts of Peter Stojanovski, he only managed to play the first
round of the Club Championships, because bigger events beckoned. He went and won the
NSW junior tournament and then went to Victoria to play in the Aaron Bradley tournament
were he got beaten in a playoff. Peter then went to China and was the best performed
Australian.
Well done to Andrius Belkus and Nathan Park on both qualifying for their Professional Tickets
this year, we wish you both well in your chosen careers.
To my fellow Directors, I would like to express my appreciation for your dedication throughout
the year. Our Club Captain, John Dunkin, who has again devoted many hours for the well
being of our club, both at the office of Cabramatta and representing us at interclub meetings
where he is delegate to the NSW Golf Association.
My personal thanks to my Vice- President, Chris Zouroudis, for his total support he has given
me. Chris has done a good job as House Chairman and to Allan Lucas for his assistance
with the Spin and Win nights.
I would like to thank Giulio Pomponio for his dedication as the Treasurer. He is doing a great
job of helping Bill monitor and control finances.
I would also like to express my thanks and the thanks of the Board to the Associates for their
co-operation and the support they give to the club.
Every year I thank Bill Watson, Matt Dowd, and Bob Brown for their efforts in teaching the
young players, if you have a look at the players in the Major Pennant side this year, half of
them came through the Saturday Morning Clinic. It is the effort these three put in that helped
the club achieve the success it has.
We have to recognise the important role our staff have in the success the club achieves. To
our General Manager, Bill Basan, Office Administrator, Monica and our Bar Staff, Matthew
Carrier, Dayman Huynh, Dickson Do, Jean Walton, Paul Rule and JulieTea, our Green Staff
headed by Steve Kazurinsky, Dean Attard, Nick McCann, Shane Attard, Paul Sanders, Bob
Erskine, Matthew Martin and Chris Catt, our Professional Matt Dowd and his assistants,
Jace, Michelle, Andrius & John. We thank you all for your individual efforts and your ability to
work as a team for the good of the club.
It is with sincere regret that I report the passing of Margaret Carroll, she put in many years of
working Friday nights doing the Spin & Win, she will be missed by all.
On behalf of the Board of Directors, I would like to thank the members for their support during
the past year. Your participation in the activities of our club is important to the overall success
of Cabramatta Golf Club.
ABN 75 000 060 355
Treasurer’s Report
The result for the year ended 31 March 2012, was a Operating Profit of $104,635. The
final result was a little disappointing, as profits mid year, indicated an operating profit in
excess of $200,000. However, for the second year in succession, extreme wet weather
had a significant effect on Competition fees, Green fees, Bar trading and Poker machine
revenues. Combined with the additional costs associated with maintaining the Golf Course
to acceptable standards, profit levels were severely affected during the summer months.
Comparative financial figures for the last 3 years indicate:-
2011/12 2010/11 2009/10
$ $
Total Revenues 3,351,213 3,335,762 3,209,231
Expenses 2,946,240 2,956,194 2,871,744
Operating Profit 104,635 88,818 49,074
Profit – Bar Trading 198,575 205,256 190,340
Poker Machine 912,374 908,219 870,083
Members Funds 12,661,752 12,557,117 12,415,041
Despite the weather setbacks over the past 2 years, we continue to trade profitably, slightly
increasing gross revenues, whilst reducing expenditure.
A recent survey conducted by HLB Mann Judd (Chartered Accountants), on 60 Sydney
Metropolitan Golf Clubs for the 2011 year, reported that nearly 75% of all golf clubs surveyed,
failed to report a Surplus during the last year.
These results indicate a worrying trend of reduced memberships, reduced non-member
participation, and increased costs of providing golf course facilities.
Based on our results, it is a credit to all our members, the clubs employees, and the Directors,
for all their hard work, which has allowed our club, to be the envy of many rival clubs. Despite
the results, we must continue to be prudent in keeping a rein on all expenditures.
In the past 12 months, major Capital Expenditures were:-
$
30 Yamaha Golf Carts 204,000
3 x Poker Machines 90,146
Ford Ranger – Motor Vehicle 39,909
All of these were paid from current cash flows, with no borrowings.
We now have a Strategic Plan in place for the next 3 years, with details of projected Financial
Statements and Capital Expenditures.
It has been a difficult 12 months, although pleasant, and it is a honour to be the Treasurer of
Cabramatta Golf Club. Again I thank all the members, the Staff, and fellow Board Members
for the current year, and look forward to the next 12 months.
General Managers Report
As always it is an absolute privilege to give Club members my thoughts on the financial
year just completed.
All things considered the profit of $104,635 is a very satisfying result. The constant wet
weather caused major disruption to competition income, social green fees, motorized cart
hire and the flow on to bar sales and other Clubhouse activity. If not for the poor weather a
profit of $150,000 to $200,000 could have easily been achieved. It was not only the amount
of wet days that we encountered but the actual days that it rained , namely Wednesday’s,
Saturday’s & Sunday’s our big income day’s.
I was taught years ago that “you can only play with the cards that you are dealt”, so
enough on the rain and what I have been told are “excuses”, we will accept the $104,635
profit and continue to ensure that our Club is financially secure in what are very tough
times not only in the Club Industry but especially in the Golf Club Industry. I am currently
surveying Annual Reports of similar Golf Clubs to ours, unfortunately I am hearing some
horror stories out there for many of our neighboring or similar Clubs, to most there is no
simple fix and I do not know what their future holds.
I do know that the hard decisions made by our Board of Directors three or four years ago
to extend and renovate has halted a rapidly declining turnover in both bar and gaming.
These decisions not only satisfied State Government changes regarding smoking but have
now given us a solid base to move ahead to produce the necessary turnover required to
maintain a golf course of our standard.
I will leave the breakdown of the “financials” to Treasurer Giulio and similarly I will leave
“match and greens” to Captain John.
I must however talk of my huge satisfaction of our Golf Course at the moment. The
improvement in the past six months has been most noticeable and I can only dream of
what condition we will be in given another twelve months under Course Superintendant
Steve Kazurinsky. To Steve and his hard working team well done, it is very pleasing to hear
the many positives comments from long term members and also visitors playing our course
for the very first time.
CABRAMATTA GOLF CLUB LIMITED ANNUAL REPORT 2012 ABN 75 000 060 355 CABRAMATTA GOLF CLUB LIMITED ANNUAL REPORT 2012
ABN 75 000 060 355
As happy as I am with the golf course I must say the Clubhouse and Administration keeps
on ticking over with a minimum of fuss. The reason that this can occur is the backbone
of Administration, Monica who deserves every accolade in the book, her loyalty and
dedication to Cabramatta Golf Club over the past nineteen years has to be acknowledged
and admired. Another stalwart is Bar Manager Matt Carrier who also has twenty years of
loyal service to his credit. To the rest of my dedicated Clubhouse team namely Dickson,
Dayman, Jean, Julie, Paul (froggy) and Adrian, thank you for your efforts and reliability
over the past twelve months.
A big thank you to my mate Matt Dowd and his crew in the Pro Shop, it is a great to have
the confidence that I have in the Pro Shop operations and the friendly yet professional way
they work with Administration.
My last big thank you goes to my friends Frank & Julie Raso from Bellissimo’s, when I first
started here a bit over four years ago we were paying a retainer of $1,000 per month to
a caterer to have no one eat here. I was also told “we have tried for forty years to have
a successful restaurant and they have all failed”. Well what do you know, Bellissimo’s at
Cabramatta Golf Club has been a major success, opposing Clubs copy us, in fact many
have unsuccessfully tried to poach Bellissimo’s. I am very glad that you have stayed loyal
to us and look forward to working closely with Bellissimo’s for many years to come.
Congratulations to all our Champions throughout the year and to all our various
representative teams, thank you for the manner in which you represented our Club.
I know Captain John will talk about our Division 2 Pennant win at length, so I want to
acknowledge the mixture of youth and experience that proved the winning formula. What a
great advertisement of our highly successful junior development program being supervised
by Bill Watson, Matt Dowd & Bob Brown. It is very satisfying to know that as we lose one
or two to chase their dreams in the professional ranks there is another wave of young guns
hungry and ready to fill the vacant spaces.
We all hope for dryer conditions, resulting in more golf, resulting in a better 2013 Annual
Report that will be the envy of most Golf Clubs.
Until next year, good health and good golfing!
Bill Basan
GeNeRAL MANAGeR
House Chairmans Report
Firstly, thank you to the girls, Monica, Kathy, Kay, Michelle and Debbie. To our members
Alan Lucas, Ted Darmic, Steve Clark, John Dunkin and Peter Mahoney, thank you for your
efforts with the club’s social functions. I apologise if I left anyone out.
It has been another very productive year with the club’s activities and with all the rain and
cancellations on the course, again poker has helped contribute to the golf club’s turnover.
Corporate days and functions have been increasing steadily over the past year. Also I
would like to thank Bellissimo’s, Frank and Julie for the catering they provide for the club.
Due to the current economy, companies/business either closing down, or their struggling,
Cabramatta Golf Club should be proud turning over a profit.
Finally I would like to thank the guys on the Board, Peter Mahoney, Giulio Pomponio, John
Dunkin, Greg Nance, Bob Brown, Denis Krilich, Terry Lamb and Brendan Hardy for their
commitment
CABRAMATTA GOLF CLUB LIMITED ANNUAL REPORT 2012 ABN 75 000 060 355 CABRAMATTA GOLF CLUB LIMITED ANNUAL REPORT 2012
ABN 75 000 060 355
Captain’s Report
This year the club competed in Major and Masters Pennants, Eric Apperly Shield, Junior
Pennant, Encourage Shield, Warren and Gibson Shield, Super Seniors and Mixed
Pennants.
To the Managers of these teams, thank you for giving of your time and for those selected
to play congratulations. We won our division in the Masters, Juniors, & Super Seniors. We
were beaten in the semi – final of the Junior pennant. Our Major Pennant team won their
division and went on to win the Division 2 pennant, our first major win in 24 years.
Peter Stojanovski won the NSW Junior Championship, beating a star studded field
around the Charlestown Golf Club in Newcastle. He represented in the Aaron Badderly
International and was successful in winning two 54 hole tournaments in the Middle East
Club Champion
Andrius Belkus won the championship for the first time, his score of 287 was tremendous,
he was seven over at the end of round one and he finished seven over. Any time you can
score under par on the course during championship play says much for your ability and
Andrius has much of that. He is looking at testing his game in the pro ranks and we wish
him all the best in those endeavours.
In a close battle for second Shannon Speller again filled that role this time he was one
place in front of his nemesis Mick Nagy. Owen Woodley is the Junior Champion and Greg
McKay won the senior title congratulations to them.
In the final of the Matchplay this year we witnessed a dominant performance from Troy
Norris he defeated Shannon Speller 8/7.
Major Pennant Team
The selected team for this year was:
Troy Norris (c) Andrew Marsh Shannon Speller Andrius Belkus
Peter Stojanovski Mick Nagy Josh Ingram Tom Dunkin
Owen Woodley Greg Narayan
Owen and Josh debuted for Cabramatta in the first seven this year. This year we were
successful in the divisional games, we won all matches at home, our only loss was
to Avondale away, we beat both Killara and Bankstown away. In the semi – final at
Cumberland we were seeded against Liverpool in a match that could have gone either
way, we prevailed 4 matches to 3. The match was extremely close, Mick Nagy’s fight back
from 4 down thru 4 holes to win 2/1 was the pivotal game.
In the final we were matched up against Wakehurst at Moore Park. Through the first nine
holes Wakehurst had the better of the contest our team were able to gain the ascendency
around the back nine. Andrew Marsh was up all day and recorded our first point with a 3/2
win, Josh Ingram was 2 down with 3 to play, a birdie par par finish saw him gain another
valuable point at the same time Mick Nagy and Troy Norris were winning their games to
give us an unassailable lead. Peter Stojanovski was 2up with 2 to play and Andrius Belkus
was on his way to victory when they were called off the course. We recorded a 5/2 victory.
We will be competing in division one in 2012.
To the many members who act as caddies for the team thank you it is most appreciated. To
the many supporters who attend our games thank you. It is the envy of other clubs to see
so many Cabra shirts at our matches, the Wakehurst team Captain was impressed with
the support we had. Thank you to Trish Nance for her assistance in refereeing the team
matches this year.
Golf course Renovations and Additions
Our new course Superintendent Steve Kazurinsky started in October. In the short time
he has been with us the course has shown rapid improvement, grass on tees and strong
growth structurally within our greens.
The area around the 5th green was landscaped, the bunkers at the 12th and 15th have
been rebuilt, the 15th has been built using bitumen as the base, we will see how this goes
over the next 12 months. We will be working our way through the bunkers on the course
until all bunkers have had a makeover.
Dean Belgre resigned his role as second in-charge to pursue private interests we wish him
all the best and thank him for his contribution to our club. The past summer has been the
wettest one for many years and the growth around the course caused many great angst.
I would like to thank Steve, his team of Nick McCann, Dean Attard, Shane Attard, Paul
Sanders, Bob Erskine and Matt Martin, Chris Catt our apprentices, for their assistance in
working the additional hours needed to get on top of the long grass.
Administration
Our club is in a solid financial position, club patronage is up, the poker nights are
successful, our partnership with Bellissimo’s is forging ahead, corporate golf days and
sponsorships are on the increase due largely to Bill Basan and Monica’s dedication, it is
very much appreciated.
Professional
We are fortunate that Matt Dowd and his dedicated team of Andrius, Michelle, John
and Jace provide the members with a standard of service second to none so for all
golfing needs speak to Matt and his team. Matt’s help in organising the sponsor’s day is
appreciated.
Junior Development
Each Saturday Bob Brown, Bill Watson (Life Member) together with our Professional,
Matt Dowd coach as many junior golfers as possible. The Hoxton Park Driving Range has
closed and now Bill and his team attend the Milperra range.
We are looking to extend the practice tee on the 10th fairway so Matt Dowd can coach the
kids in this area, the club sponsors this programme and it provides us with a steady stream
of young people. Bill’s dedication to fostering youth goes largely unnoticed, his staging of
junior events during school holidays, transporting young people and generally assisting
around the club is much appreciated.
New era Cabramatta Cup.
Mixed Pennants Report
The 2012 Mixed Pennant competition commenced on the 8th Jan 2012 with Cabramatta
Golf Club being in Division 5 with Beverley Park, Gordon & Randwick Golf Clubs.
The members of our team in handicap order were:
Bryan Murray Edna Burton
Mick McCormick Robyn Murray
John Casey Alice Casey
Steve Druce Lynette MacPherson
Phil Carrier Debbie Carrier
John King Kathleen King
Barry Maloney Gaynor Maloney
Our side acquitted themselves very well against strong opposition only losing 1 away match
and winning all home matches. Beverley Park were our main hurdle also performing well at
home and away also only losing 1 match away to Cabramatta in the final preliminary round at
Cabramatta. Cabramatta needed to win the last round to join Beverley Park on 9 points and
have a margin of 4½ to ½ to move into the finals ahead of Beverley Park but unfortunately
after a seven hour marathon partially due to a thunder storm intervention a spirited hard fort
effort wound up 3½ to 1½ to Cabramatta not enough to get the job done but nobody had
let their team mates down it was just how it panned out and all team members can be very
proud of their efforts throughout the tournament.
The camaraderie between the team players and management was fantastic and as a unit we
thoroughly enjoyed this year’s competition and thank Club for the opportunity to participate.
In addition I wish to also sincerely thank the catering staff from Bellissimo’s for their fine
cuisine and service and the Pro Shop Staff for their support as starter and equipment during
the matches.
As Team Manager I wish to thank all Team Members, The Manager of the Manager (Sue)
yourselves as much as I did.
Super Senior Pennant Report
Once again the team performed very well, with the addition of some new players coming
into the team. I thought we would have a good chance to bring the Pennant to Cabramatta.
We had a very strong division to compete against, most of the teams were divisional winners
in 2011. The boys performed very well going through the division undefeated.
Our Quarter Final playoff was held at Castle Hill against a very good Lakes team. We Tried
very hard but were finally defeated 4/3. The Lakes now go on to play Belmont who again
has reached the Final.
I would like to thank the people who helped out during the season especially Ray Cummins
for putting his hand up when we were short at the start of the season. The team consisted
of the following players:
James Malkus Mick McCormick Peter Vallance Steve Druce
Robert Glenday Bob Brown Ron Armstrong John Hardie
Ken Higgins Ray Cummins Noel Williams
I would like to thank the Club for their support and especially Monica for all her efforts and
Frank for his service when we played at home.
Cabramatta Golf Club was this year represented by Peter Stojanovski, Josh Ingram, Greg
Narayan, Jace Kelly, Owen Woodley, Tom Dunkin, Mii Tekii & Michael Boskovski.
Matches were played against Avondale, Oatlands, NSW, Dunheved & Massey Park Golf
Clubs. This group was a very difficult section to win and advance into the final playoffs.
The players that were picked to represent Cabramatta gave their all & after defeating the
favourites of our group, NSW GC, at Oatlands we were in a very strong position to advance.
In the last game of the group stage they were pitted against Massey Park at their home
course, unfortunately Cabramatta was beaten in a very tight encounter meaning NSW
advanced into the playoffs.
I would like to thank all players, caddies & supporters that participated in this year’s event &
I am sure that in future events that Cabramatta Golf Club participate the same commitment
will be showed.
Encourage Shield Report
The Encourage Shield is a match play competition which allows juniors who have recently
been given their handicap to represent their club against other clubs within their area and
roughly on a similar handicap.
This year our opposing clubs were - Camden Lakeside, Camden, New Brighton, Liverpool
and Kareela.
We had the luxury of two players backing up from last year, being Jackson Graham, our
number one, and Adarsh Singh, our captain and number two. Along with Jackson and Adarsh
we had Cameron Glenday playing at three and between them they only lost 2 matches with
Cameron going through undefeated.
The new boys along with Cameron were Josh Duncombe, Radovan Meric, Harrison
Finocchiaro and Patrick Young. Early on in our first game a few of the boys suffered from
brain freeze but managed to recover before too much damage was done. As a spectator I
could not have asked for more. On one 130 M. par 3, I saw one tee shot knee deep in the
rubbish and the other 30 cm. off the green. Shortly thereafter they walked off with the hole
halved in 8s. Four holes later on a par 5 they both have birdie putts within 6M. This is how
the games unfolded over the next 4 weeks. The boys were growing in confidence and it was
evident that they were starting to like this game.
The entire side played their part starting with a 4/1 win against Camden, followed by 3/2
losses in the next 4 games. As you can see, the signs are very promising for next year.
We will probably have Adarsh, Jackson and Cameron going to Junior Pennant and Josh,
Radavan, Harrison and Pat providing the backbone for the new group coming through.
To the Mums and Dads, thank you for your support. It is a big step in their development and
I am sure you enjoyed watching them as much as I did.
A big thank you to Bill Watson and Matt Dowd for their continued efforts and support of junior
development within our club.
Junior Pennants Team
This year’s Junior Pennant team was a new team from the previous year with the exception
of one who filled in for one game.
Dylan Marsh Samuel Williamson Jyiten Wales Chris Catt
Anthony Okaro Elia Simon Jackson Graham
In our division this year, we once again went through undefeated, beating Camden 4 ½ to 1,
Campbelltown 5 to ½ Windsor 3 to 2 ½ , Linwood 5 ½ to Nil.
This was a very strong result considering it was the first time the boys had represented the
club in Junior pennants and were pretty much written off by other members within the club
as easy beats.
The boys never doubted themselves and showed a strong will to win, even when down in
their matches they found a way to win.
Unfortunately we went down in the semi’s against Avondale who had a couple of players who
went on to play major pennants for them.
A special thanks to Jackson Graham who filled in for a couple of games coming up from
Encouraged Shield team and played very strong against lower markers.
I feel that the boys will be even stronger for the following years in the Junior pennant
competition given a further year’s experience.
I would like to thank all caddies and supporters throughout the year and in the final.
B Grade Pennants (TL Warren Trophy Report)
After coming back from holidays I was presented by the captain the 2011 Warren Trophy
team. He put them through an exhaustive trial process where only the cream that rose to
the top were selected. The Captain was very confident in his selections, going on record
saying that they should qualify for the finals and keep the tradition of strong Warren Trophy
performance alive.
We were drawn against Wakehurst, Muirfield, Parramatta and Wallacia Golf Clubs and in a
crazy draw did not get to play them twice nor did we get to play them all at home… well done
Golf NSW. But these hurdles were mere potholes for our guys who went thru the qualifying
series undefeated and showed the other teams who qualified that the Cabra boys were here
to win.
Our quarter final was against Fox Hills at rain and windswept Randwick GC. I have never
played in conditions as harsh. Our guys came on top that day, with the highlight of the day
being a great par on the last from Fast Eddie to see us win 2 -1.
The semifinal was against our arch enemy Liverpool GC at Beverley Park. It was a close
tussle all day, with Rob Gray paring the first play-off hole to win the day.
We now went on to play The Coast GC at Campbelltown GC. I t was very exciting day which
unfortunately we were to lose. However I did see one of the best shots ever, Mila nailed a
3 wood over the Dam on 18 from a hanging lie to 2 foot. If he sank the putt we would have
won the day but unfortunately it lipped out and he and his partner Brendan Hardy lost on the
2nd play-off hole. Better luck next year.
Our team was:
Brendan “The Tank” Hardy: Boy could this guy smash a ball. Everyone was in awe of his
play.
Mihovil “The Gun” Bogovic: Brendan’s partner and was the rock of the team, when Brendan
was two fairways across, Mila was always down the middle
Robert “The Earl” Gray: Could bomb them out there, as far as Brendan and handled the
pressure games like a pro
Fast Eddie Narayan: Was usually getting out of his car when he his name was called, but
could hit the red little driver from the 80s, straight and long
Nino” The Skipper” Santone: Our courageous captain who was always positive and played
great. A shame to see a great club man like him finish with a loss
Steady John King: Was always competitive and hard to beat. Formed a great team with Nino
Stephen “Smiley” Umpleby: Hard to get a smile out of him had limited opportunities but a
great clubman
Joel “the Man” Petrovic: Had limited opportunities to shine. A player with great potential.
Danny “Hats of backwards” Weihrauch: Very competitive and when called upon gave 100%
David “Call me Pete”Blithell: Pete, I mean Dave, was always positive and a great team guy,
but should look at changing his name to Pete
C Grade Pennants Report (GIBSON SHEILD)
The team that represented Cabra in 2011 are as follows: Brian Bissett, Steve Doorey, Adam
Wadick, John McGarr, Bill Basan, Chris Zouroudis, John Ward, Paul Dunn, Ronny McMah
and Paul Dexter.
In our division we went through undefeated against Wakehurst, Muirfield and Parramatta
only lost ½ a match. This made us one of the top qualifiers for the semi’s.
We played our quarter final at Woolooware against The Coast and won 2½. The semi final
was against Georges River at Beverly Park which we also won 2½, which qualified us to
the final match against East Lakes were we lost 2 games to 1. This particular game against
the Lakes consisted a high number of birdies and pars with a very few bogies. Makes you
wonder about the handicap system at the time.
The pairing of Adam Wadick and Johnny McGarr went through the season undefeated, Well
done guys.
This was one of the hottest pennant teams I’ve played and managed through my term. I
would like to thank the guys for showing true spirit and commitment right to the end of the
competition and also like to thank the caddies and spectators for their support.
Audit Report to the Members
Scope
I have audited the Financial Statements being a Special Purpose Financial Report, for the year
ended 31st March, 2012 of Cabramatta Golf Club Limited. The Club’s Directors are responsible
for the financial reporting requirements of the Club and are appropriate to meet the needs of
the members. I have conducted an independent audit of the Financial Statements in order to
express an opinion on them to the members of the Club. No opinion is expressed as to whether
the accounting policies used are appropriate to the needs of the members.
The Financial Statements have been prepared for distribution to members for the purpose
of fulfilling the Directors’ financial reporting requirements under the Corporations Act 2001.
I disclaim any assumption of responsibility for any reliance on this report or on the Financial
Statements to which it relates to any person other than the members, or for any purpose other
than that for which it was prepared.
My audit has been conducted in accordance with Australian Auditing Standards. My procedures
included examination, on a test basis, of evidence supporting the amounts and other disclosures
in the Financial Statements and significant accounting estimates. These procedures have been
undertaken to form an opinion as to whether, in all material respects, the Financial Statements
are presented fairly in accordance with the accounting policies described in Note 1 to the
Financial Statements. These policies do not require the application of all Accounting Standards
and other mandatory professional reporting requirements in Australia.
The audit opinion expressed in this report has been formed on the above basis.
Audit opinion
In my opinion, the Financial Statements present fairly, in accordance with the accounting policies
described in Note 1 to the Financial Statement, the financial position of Cabramatta Golf Club
Limited as at 31st March, 2012, and the results of its operations for the year then ended.
In our opinion, the financial report of Cabramatta Golf Club Limited:
• Gives a true and fair view, as required by the Corporations Act 2001 in Australia, of
the financial position of Cabramatta Golf Club Limited as at 31st March 2012 and of its
performance for the year ended on that date, and
• Is presented in accordance with the Corporations Act 2001, Accounting Standards and
other mandatory professional reporting requirements in Australia, and the Corporations
Regulations 2001.
This opinion must be read in conjunction with the rest of our audit report.
Scope
The financial report and directors’ responsibility:
The financial report comprises the statement of financial position, statement of financial
performance, accompanying notes to the financial statements, and directors’ declaration for
Cabramatta Golf Club Limited (the company) for the year ended 31st March 2012.
The directors of the company are responsible for the preparation and true and fair
presentation of the financial report in accordance with the Corporations Act 2001. This
includes responsibility for the maintenance of adequate accounting records and internal
controls that are designed to prevent and detect fraud and error, and for the accounting
policies and accounting estimates inherent in the financial report.
Audit Approach
We conducted an independent audit in order to express an opinion to the members of the
company. Our audit was conducted in accordance with Australian Accounting Standards, in
order to provide reasonable assurance as to whether the financial report is free of material
misstatement. The nature of an audit is influenced by factors such as the use of professional
judgment, selective testing, the inherent limitations of internal control, and the availability of
persuasive rather than conclusive evidence. Therefore, an audit cannot guarantee that all
material misstatements have been detected.
We performed procedures to assess whether in all material respects the financial report
presents fairly, in accordance with Corporations Act 2001, Accounting Standards and other
mandatory financial reporting requirements in Australia, a view which is consistent with our
understanding of the company’s financial position, and its performance as represented by
the results of its operations.
We formed our audit opinion on the basis of these procedures, which included:
• Examining, on a test basis, information to provide evidence supporting the amounts
and disclosures in the financial report, and
• Assessing the appropriateness of the accounting policies and disclosures used and
the reasonableness of significant accounting estimates made by the directors.
When this audit report is included in an Annual Report, our procedures include reading
the other information in the Annual Report to determine whether it contains any material
inconsistencies with the financial report.
While we considered the effectiveness of management’s internal controls over financial
reporting when determining the nature and extent of our procedures, our audit was not
designed to provide assurance on internal controls.
Our audit did not involve an analysis of the prudence of business decisions made by directors
or management.
Independence
In conducting our audit, we followed applicable independence requirements of Australian
professional ethical pronouncements and the Corporations Act 2001.
