Richard Strauss
On September 8, 1949, Richard Strauss died at his home in Bavaria, a titan among
composers of this century. His music, a life work of vast dimensions and decisive
importance, stands far above the struggle of two generations for new styles and new
forms of expression. At 85, his creative power remained unbroken, and the last works,
written in a style of complete serenity and detachment, join the long list of renowned
masterpieces of his earlier periods.
More than the honor and recognition paid to him in his lifetime, however, the final
tribute to his memory is the world's devotion to his music. The beloved operas, symphonic
poems and lieder of Richard Strauss, known and performed on opera and concert stages
throughout the world, have become the inalienable property of mankind.

As an average approximately 50% of the items in musicological bibliographies refer
to articles in these periodicals. They represent therefore an indispensable item for all
research. Our project calls for a complete reprint of the series comprising more than
50,000 pages. They are to be reproduced by photolithography in a size that is reduced,
but may easily be read. Generally there will be six original pages to one 9" x 12" page.

to the Beethoven Centenary. Now a publication of the New York Public Library.
This sumptuous book contains facsimiles of thirty-five Beethoven Letters owned by
Americans. The facsimiles are followed by transcripts and translations of the original
text of the letters and each letter is then placed in its biographical frame by the author,
whose conclusions often deviate from those of other Beethoven biographers.
The text (xxix, 213 pages) gives many intimate glimpses into Beethoven's life and
career and the facsimiles afford a fascinating opportunity to decipher Beethoven's epistolary
hieroglyphics.

One thousand copies were printed of this limited de luxe edition. Five hundred
copies were set aside for sale in America. The Beethoven Association acquired the entire
American allotment and has turned over to the New York Public Library the small supply

The facsimile, prepared and printed by Mr. H. Piazza, L'Edition d'Art, Paris, is an
extraordinary piece of reproduction. It duplicates faithfully every characteristic pen-stroke
of the master, every alteration and finger-mark.
