QUALITY OF SERVICE N° 1 REASON FOR CHOOSING CASE
Mark Millar, Mashova CEO
ounded in 1983, Mashova is a
F successful plant hire business
operating in South Africa and Mozambique
through six branches.
The company runs its own workshops,
where it keeps emergency
and service parts in stock to ensure
their customers get the best
support. With a fleet of 140 equipment
units and 30 service vehicles,
the company’s 250 employees
serve the mining industry, central
government and municipalities,
and South Africa’s top five construction
corporations.
A trust relationship of the highest
standard
“Service is the primary factor we
take into consideration when purchasing
machinery,” said Mr Mark
Millar, CEO of Mashova in a recent
interview. “The quick reaction time
and the availability of parts are of
critical importance in our industry.
We have several machines working
in mines, running 24 hours a day.
If you miss one 24-hour shift because
a part is not available, you
are missing about two-and-a-half
days worth of production in terms
of a normal nine-hour day.”
“Case understands our business
and is very responsive. For example,
if we have a breakdown, CSE
understands that the priority is to
get the machine back to work as
quickly as possible. We can count
“The n o 1 reason for choosing Case as an equipment
partner is the service support and trust relationship
we have with CSE, Case importer in South
Africa; the other main factors are the quality of the
product and the excellent value for money”
Mark Millar, CEO of leading South African plant hire
company Mashova, explains why his company has
been buying their excavators, backhoe loaders and
wheel loaders from Case since 1985.
on them to send the part immediately,
whether the machine is under
warranty or not, and sort out
the paperwork so that the repair
can be done without delay.”
Case’s commitment to Mashova’s
business extends beyond technical
support: Mr Millar explains: “I
know that I can phone at any time,
ask for the delivery of six excavators
at very short notice, and I can
count on Case to deliver all the
machines on time, with the financing
in place and the order to follow.
The trust relationship between
Mashova and Case is of the highest
standard, and this is very important
to us.”
World-class quality for extreme
conditions
Mashova currently runs a fleet of
45 Case units – crawler excavators,
wheel loaders and backhoe
loaders – which they plan to expand
to 50 units in the near future.
The company uses a computer
forecasted replacement programme
to constantly update the
fleet and expands each product
line according to customer requirements.
“We tend to run our machines
12-15,000 hours, after
QUALITY OF SERVICE N° 1 REASON FOR CHOOSING CASE
One of Mashova’s Case CX210B excavators on-the-job
which time we sell them - due to
our rigorous maintenance programmes,
our machines have quite
a ‘following’ in the second hand
market” explained Mr Millar.
The machines work in extreme
dust and heat conditions: “we have
very tough working conditions,
especially in the mining jobsites”
explained Mr Millar. “It can get
very hot and dry. For example, in
Mozambique last December we
experienced 50 o C temperatures, so
we maintain 250-hour service intervals
on all units to keep them
running smoothly and maximise
their durability, to achieve the best
resale value.”
“When the time comes to replace a
unit, we always do a lot of research.
I regularly attend the
BAUMA show to keep up to date
with all the latest technologies in
equipment, and the Internet is an
important resource. We compare
the different products available in
the market, because we must
make sure we always run the number
one product. I trained as a
mechanical engineer, so quality of
manufacturing is not negotiable:
with Case I know that I have this,”
added Mr Millar.
CX crawler excavators: the best
in the market
“Of the Case product lines we have
in our fleet, the CX excavators are
the most profitable, and the quality
is excellent, world-class,” com-
mented Mr Millar. “For our customers,
fuel efficiency and the latest
technology are very important in
an excavator; these are our main
selling points, and there is no better
excavator than Case.”
Mashova currently has Case CX210
(20 tons) and CX290 (30 tons)
units in its fleet, and is planning to
expand its offering with a CX470
(47 tons).
Case importer CSE sets highest
standards in customer relationship
CSE supports its customers
through an extensive distribution
network of branches and dealerships,
all of which run fully
equipped workshops and parts
warehouse facilities. Field service
technicians and technical staff are
continuously trained by Case Factory
Trainers to ensure they are up
to date with the latest technology.
“CSE set an example in building a
strong relationship of trust with the
customer. Ultimately, that is what
brings return business. Why will we
buy more Case machines in future?
Because we know we can rely on
and trust CSE,” concluded Mr Millar.
