impression that you are unsure of yourself, losing your credibility.
7.2 Know your audience. What you say and how you say it should be
tailored for the kind of audience you are addressing.
7.3 Be sincere. Say something only if you genuinely feel it is important for
you to say it.
7.4 Be positive. If you are not convinced of the worth of your utterances,
nobody will. The more passionate you are about something, the more
your words will ring with the truth of your convictions.
7.5 Reach out to your audience. Provide your listeners the chance to
clarify doubts or to give feedbacks. Bridging the gap between yourself
and your audience will help make you even better at communication in
the future.
8. MEETING THE CHALLENGES
8.1 The challenges seem daunting, but at the same time we are People of
Faith. We Methodists can confront and overcome. We have a role to
play in ensuring that the Church moves forward. Let us contribute our
quota in this era of repositioning to move our church forward in line
with our Vision and Mission and to explore all areas of communication
to the fullest to enable us take our rightful place in the Christian Fold.
8.2 The church and her leaders at every level must seize every
opportunity to ensure information is disseminated by all possible and
available means, starting from the word of mouth, printed material,
radio and television and, of course, the internet, which has now taken
over as a major means of communication. With one click of a mouse,
information made available on the net can be accessed anywhere in
the world at any time.
While Conference is working on a website, we must encourage local
Churches, circuits and Dioceses that have the means to establish web
sites thereby enabling anyone to access information about the Church
anywhere at any time. We are aware that certain churches in Lagos
such as Hoare's Memorial Methodist Cathedral Yaba, Lagos and Wesley
cathedral Olowogbowo, Lagos, have made moves in this direction.
8.3 Every Diocese located in State Capitals should endeavour to sponsor a
television or at least a radio programme on a regular basis, local
churches can even do the same. This has a two way effect, firstly it
publishes our message in every home in the state, and secondly, it
