22 Edward VI, third period, fine sovereign, mm. ostrich head (1551), crowned figure of king<br />
enthroned facing, holding orb <strong>and</strong> sceptre, portcullis at feet, rev. shield of arms at centre of fullblown<br />
rose, 15.03gms. (S.2446; N.1926; Schneider 701), this h<strong>and</strong>some <strong>and</strong> exceedingly rare coin was<br />
purchased by Jonathan Rashleigh at the famous E. J. Shepherd sale in 1885. Subsequently repaired in the right<br />
h<strong>and</strong> field it is otherwise a full <strong>and</strong> well struck piece, almost very fine <strong>and</strong> with a clear portrait. It is believed that<br />
only six examples are in private h<strong>and</strong>s £30,000-35,000<br />
