With their debut album Illumination well and truly setting the bar<br />

for like-minded performers, Miami Horror will be showc<strong>as</strong>ing their<br />

mixing talents <strong>as</strong> part of an exclusive DJ set through the likes of<br />

producer Ben Plant.<br />

Hailing from Melbourne, Plant is the cornerstone of Miami Horror.<br />

<strong>The</strong> electronic young gun kick-started Miami Horror out of a love of<br />

Roland keyboards and French house, landing himself on Pitchfork’s<br />

hot list overnight and copping a barrage of high-profile remix<br />

requests from the likes of Datarock, PNAU and <strong>The</strong> Presets.<br />

Next, <strong>as</strong> part of his ‘Hell on Wheels’ tour (and to promote his<br />

latest single of the same name), <strong>Byron</strong> favourite Sampology will<br />

be gracing the outdoor garden setting with his Audio Visual DJ<br />

performance. His Super Visual performances have garnered much<br />

attention from around the world from esteemed colleagues and<br />

excited punters alike. <strong>The</strong> technical <strong>as</strong>pect to his Super Visual shows<br />

is impressive, <strong>as</strong> he madly manipulates video via two turntables<br />

using his special Rane mixer and Serato, <strong>as</strong> well <strong>as</strong> live-triggering<br />

custom animations via his drum machine. But it’s Sampology’s<br />

cheeky sense of humour, se<strong>as</strong>oning exerpts from film and TV<br />

shows, filmclips, YouTube clips and vintage VHS finds that takes<br />

your ordinary club night and turns it into a stupidly exciting and<br />

crazy fun visual m<strong>as</strong>h-up. As a DJ, a VDJ and Producer, the oneman<br />

show will be touring throughout Australia and New Zealand<br />

providing fans with the ultimate collaborative experience. Finishing<br />

the night are the Dune Rats, who were kind enough to answer a<br />

few questions.<br />

Your second EP Social Atoms h<strong>as</strong> been out for a couple of<br />

months now. What h<strong>as</strong> the response been like from your fans<br />

(from what I’ve read, it’s quite a success)? <strong>The</strong> response h<strong>as</strong> been<br />

pretty amazing so far; pretty much exceeded all expectations we<br />

ever had for this band so I suppose anything else is a bonus. We’ve<br />

received a couple of harsh comments from some shit-dicks but it’s<br />

all good!<br />

As an unsigned band, how difficult h<strong>as</strong> it been for you guys<br />

to make your way through the music industry? We’ve found it<br />

much e<strong>as</strong>ier being unsigned and controlling everything ourselves.<br />

We’ve received a bit of interest from labels/ managers etc… just<br />

nothing that we’re 100 per cent set on.<br />

How h<strong>as</strong> the p<strong>as</strong>t year tracked for you guys; do you feel you’re<br />

developing <strong>as</strong> a local band? <strong>The</strong> p<strong>as</strong>t year h<strong>as</strong> track well for us. It’s<br />

been the only year we’ve existed so comparing now since when we<br />

started I think it’s all coming along.<br />

<strong>The</strong> people of <strong>Byron</strong> Bay I know are ecstatic about your<br />

forthcoming performance at the Buddha Bar. Have you guys<br />

done many local shows there before, and what’s the response<br />

been like? Pretty pumped some people in <strong>Byron</strong> are getting keen!<br />

We’ve only played there twice: one w<strong>as</strong> a house party and the other<br />

w<strong>as</strong> an EP launch. <strong>The</strong> crowds have been small but loud, which is<br />

always good!<br />

Bluesfest gets <strong>The</strong><br />

Chisel!<br />

One of Australia’s most iconic bands,<br />

Cold Chisel, are the latest headline to<br />

be announced for the Bluesfest 2012<br />

program. Booked to close the show on<br />

Thursday 5 April, the band is sure to draw<br />

some big numbers with their current tour<br />

drawing 300,000 bands over just 36 shows.<br />

Kathy McCabe of Sydney’s Daily Telegraph<br />

said, ‘Cold Chisel restore your musical soul<br />

on their Light <strong>The</strong> Nitro tour and reaffirm<br />

the power of music to not only define<br />

a culture but unify a nation’s identity’.<br />

Cameron Adams of Melbourne’s Herald Sun<br />

agreed: ‘Cold Chisel remind you of the lifeaffirming<br />

power of a truly great live band.<br />

L<strong>as</strong>t night, Rod Laver Arena w<strong>as</strong> wall-towall<br />

smiling faces, beaming with sheer joy’.<br />

Meanwhile, Graham Reid of the New Zealand<br />

Herald wrote: ‘Cold Chisel make raucous<br />

bar-room rock’n’roll translate into an arena<br />

with thrilling emotional impact’. In addition<br />

to performing cl<strong>as</strong>sics like Forever<br />

Now, Khe Sanh and When <strong>The</strong> War Is<br />

Over, this special Bluesfest appearance<br />

will also see Cold Chisel premiere new<br />

songs from their forthcoming album.<br />

<strong>The</strong> inaugural ‘For Folk Sake’ evening kicks<br />

off at the Rails on Wednesday, featuring<br />

a stripped-back and intimate insight into<br />

the folk songwriting of three musical<br />

artists. <strong>The</strong> first will present the emotional<br />

sensibility of Luke Yeaman, the honest<br />

punch of Tim Stokes and the dynamic<br />

touch of Greg Kew – all respected local<br />

artists who have performed collectively<br />

over a thousand gigs – will come together<br />

for this showc<strong>as</strong>e. It’s a busy time of year;<br />

this is a good chance to take a break from<br />

the chaos and b<strong>as</strong>k in the simple brilliance<br />

After performing to an audience of two<br />

billion people at the closing of the Sydney<br />

Olympics in 2000 Phil Emmanuel h<strong>as</strong><br />

toured Asia, Europe and the US several<br />

times with rave reviews.<br />

Phil h<strong>as</strong> now emerged from his selfimposed<br />

semi-retirement of recent<br />

years and h<strong>as</strong> had huge success touring<br />

nationally with the Brothers in Arms tour<br />

2010 (Phil playing the music of Dire Straits<br />

Mark Knopfler) and the Emmanuel Brothers<br />

50 Anniversary Tour 2010/2011 with brother<br />

the Shadows with the incredible popularity<br />

and guitar virtuosity of the Dire Straits into<br />

Evenings with Kerrianne<br />

Award-winning independent Original Sovereign<br />

performing Australian Artist Kerrianne Cox brings a<br />

powerful gathering and soul-filled night of music to<br />

Mullumbimby Civic Hall on Sunday. Kerrianne h<strong>as</strong><br />

been instrumental in motivating and inspiring women<br />

throughout the region and beyond to come together<br />

in healing circles and cultural exchange gatherings,<br />

supporting women to develop leadership in selfgovernance<br />

and sharing the wisdom of the world’s<br />

oldest living culture, in an initiative called Women For<br />

Change. For this night she h<strong>as</strong> activated a rare, allwomen<br />

line-up, featuring some of the shire’s best women<br />

musicians, including V<strong>as</strong>udha Harte, keys, Sheila Finke, percussion,<br />

Laura Targett, violin, and Tracey Stephens, b<strong>as</strong>s.<br />

Kerrianne is deeply p<strong>as</strong>sionate about music and the healing that<br />

takes place through music. Through her music, knowledge and strong<br />

connection to land and culture she builds a bridge and encourages all<br />
