Hart, born Alberta Lucille Hart, became one of the first surgical FTMs in 1917-18. One of<br />
the principal characters of the novel is a gay radiologist whose sexuality is at the root of his<br />
lifelong angst. Hart him/herself became a radiologist <strong>and</strong> specialist in tuberculosis<br />
diagnosis <strong>and</strong> treatment.<br />

December of 1930 just months after the release of his masterwork "Strange Splendor."<br />
