Malcolm J. Wheel <strong>of</strong> Vermont Retires<br />
F Former <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong> Member Malcolm J. Wheel has retired as assistant fire marshal/chief<br />
boiler inspector, state <strong>of</strong> Vermont, effective June 1.<br />
Mr. Wheel began his career as a boiler inspector in 1961 with the Continental Insurance Company<br />
before joining Vermont in a similar capacity in 1966. <strong>The</strong> state made him chief boiler inspector in<br />
1984. That same year he became Vermont’s first member <strong>of</strong> the <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong>. He served as member<br />
at large on the <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong> <strong>Board</strong> <strong>of</strong> Trustees from May 1993 to May 1994.<br />
Mr. Wheel served in the US Navy from 1946 to 1948 <strong>and</strong> in the US Coast Guard from 1950 to 1953.<br />
Mr. Wheel holds <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong> Commission No. 5351 with “A” endorsement. v<br />
Nova Scotia Inspector<br />
Charles J. Castle Retires<br />
FFormer <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong> Member Charles J. Castle retired June 30 as chief inspector for the<br />
province <strong>of</strong> Nova Scotia.<br />
A boiler inspector with the Nova Scotia Department <strong>of</strong> Labour since 1974, Mr.Castle previously<br />
served as a boilermaker for 10 years with the Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>National</strong> Defense. He was trained as<br />
a boilermaker apprentice at the HMC Dockyard in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Before his work at the<br />
Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>National</strong> Defense, Mr. Castle served as an <strong>of</strong>ficer cadet with the Royal Canadian<br />
Air Force.<br />
He was elected to <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong> membership in 1995.<br />
Mr. Castle holds <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong> Commission No. 8241 with “A” <strong>and</strong> “B” endorsements. v<br />
