NOTE: Standard specifications for lizard man infants, women,<br />

warriors and cfficers are given in the APPENDIX.<br />

1. NORTH ENTRANCE (marked D on outdoor map)<br />

A stout woodftn door, closed but not locked, blocks a short<br />

tunnel whose entrance is concealed by shrubs and tall grasses.<br />

The party will have to search carefully to find this entrance<br />

(detect ascon'2ealed portal) since the track which leads in this<br />

direction appftars to come to an abrupt halt, the lizard men<br />

being careful to conceal the 20 feet section of track nearest the<br />

door.<br />

2. GUARD ROOM<br />

A bare room; the only items of furniture are two wooden<br />

benches, set opposite each other against the longer<br />

walls.<br />

There are five lizard man warriors here at all times. All are<br />

armed with mlx-ning stars and carry small shields. They are<br />

alert and more than one attempt to open the entrance door<br />

(area 1) will negate any chance of surprising them. If the party<br />

approach this area without the benefit of surprise, appropriate<br />

magic or special ability, one of the guards will come out to see<br />

who is there; on seeing the party he will shout out to his<br />

comrades and then challenge the party. The other guards will<br />

join him immediately but if afight develops one of them will try<br />

to run back to the barracks (area3) whence he will return with<br />

reinforcements within three melee rounds. Noneof theguards<br />

carries any treasure.<br />

3. BARRACKS<br />

Thirteen sirlgle straw mattresses are set around the room<br />

against the walls. Beside each is a closed wooden chest.<br />

In the centre of the room is a long plain wooden table<br />

with two wooden benches set beside it.<br />

There are seven lizard man warriors in this room forming up,<br />

under an officc?r, to go on patrol within the lair. Two are armed<br />

with two javelinseach (so theyareAC5) while theotherfiveare<br />

armed with morning stars and carry small shields. One of the<br />

latter wears a fine silver chain with an ivory plaque around his<br />

neck, value 3 gp. The officer is armed with a broadsword,<br />

carries a medium sized shield and wears a silver neck collar,<br />

value 15 gp. He carries in his belt pouch the key to his chest in<br />

area 4.<br />

If they are summoned as reinforcements against the party by<br />

the guard from area 2 then the officer will take the two javelin-<br />

bearing warriors with him out of the south-facing exit, along<br />

the corridor to turn north towards area 1 and attack the party<br />

from there. The five warriors armed with morning stars will be<br />

ordered by the officer to go through area 2 and attack the party<br />

from there.<br />

Shouldameleetakeplacein thisarea, thenoiseof combatwill<br />

attract the attention of the officer in area 5 and he will arrive to<br />

join the combat after three melee rounds.<br />

The chests are all unlocked and untrapped; each contains<br />

personal possessions. Some chests also contain one or two<br />

additional items each - select as appropriate and at random<br />

from the following:<br />

a) 2-8 sp in a leather purse (four chests total)<br />

b) an additional flask of vegetable oil (three chests total)<br />

c) a dagger in a scabbard<br />

d) a wooden mallet<br />

e) a crude wooden flute<br />

f) a rough pewter mug<br />

4. OFFICER'S QUARTERS<br />

A wooden table with two wooden chairsare in thecentre<br />

of the room; there is a wooden bowl containing fruit on<br />

thetable.Againstthewestwal1 thereisasingle bedatthe<br />

foot of which is a brass-bound wooden chest.<br />

This is the room normally occupied by the officer in area3. The<br />

chest is locked (the key is in the officer's belt pouch) but not<br />

trapped. It contains personal possessions, a morning star, a<br />

leather purse containing 50 ep and a chunk of violet-coloured<br />

crystal. The last item appears quite valuable but is in fact<br />

worthless.
