Overview The <strong>Whipps</strong> <strong>Cross</strong> Vocational Training scheme offers new graduates a comprehensive postgraduate training programme<br />
as part of the <strong>DF1</strong> curriculum for general dental practice. A variety of teaching and training strategies are used during the<br />
study days to enhance the educational experience and to help participants prepare for the challenges of general dental<br />
practice.<br />
Established in 1990, the scheme draws on the experiences of its experienced trainers, former trainees some of whom<br />
return to provide the educational input to the study days and other acclaimed speakers all of whom together with the<br />
commitment of the administratuve team have contributed to the success of the <strong>Scheme</strong> over the years. The programme<br />
director favours a learner-centred approach to education within the educational architecture of the <strong>London</strong> <strong>Deanery</strong>.<br />
The course is intellectually stimulating with a focus of practical teaching which makes for a rewarding DFT year.<br />
The <strong>Scheme</strong> has access to the <strong>London</strong> Dental Education Centre (LonDEC) in central <strong>London</strong> with its state-of-the-art,<br />
multi-media, hands-on facilities and also newly established facilities at Northwick Park Hospital.<br />
Location:<br />
The Medical Education Centre is located on the 2nd Floor of Willow Lodge on the <strong>Whipps</strong> <strong>Cross</strong> University Hospital site<br />
in Leytonstone. The nearest tube stations are Leytonstone (Central Line) and Walthamstow (Victoria Line) and the<br />
hospital is a short bus ride from these stations. The nearest national rail stations are Leytonstone High Road, Wood Street<br />
and Walthamstow Central and will also require a bus journey to reach the hospital.
