Training practices are recruited on an annual basis and arelocated throughout the Province with a number generally based around the Belfast, Greater Belfast area. Current trainingpractices are located in the following towns Bangor, Banbridge Ballyclare, Belfast, Carrickfergus, Castlederg,Coleraine Dromore Kilkeel, Lisburn <strong>London</strong>derry, Lurgan, Magherafelt, Portadown, Portglenone, Saintfield,Templepatrick, ToomebridgeThere are 36 DF1 places in <strong>Northern</strong> <strong>Ireland</strong>. Practices to the <strong>Northern</strong> <strong>Ireland</strong> schemes are recruited annually and arebased throughout the Province.Those applicants offered a position in <strong>Northern</strong> <strong>Ireland</strong> will have the opportunity to view appointed practice profilesonline. These profiles will give information on the size of the practice, patient numbers, equipment and range oftreatments.Applicants may rank all 36 practices in their order of preference. Places will be allocated using the ranking position frominterview.


OverviewThe <strong>Northern</strong> <strong>Ireland</strong> Medical and Dental Training Agency (NIMDTA) is responsible for funding, managing andsupporting postgraduate medical and dental education within the <strong>Northern</strong> <strong>Ireland</strong> <strong>Deanery</strong>.The NIMDTA Dental Foundation Training <strong>Scheme</strong>s provide training to equip new dental graduates with the skillsnecessary to work as independent, competent, confident, ethical practitioners.Our 30 day release Study programme comprises lecture, tutorial and hands-on courses which complement training in theworkplace. They take place in various centres including Belfast, Antrim and Strabane. We also visit the General DentalCouncil in <strong>London</strong> and normally attend the BDA National Conference.Other elements of the Training <strong>Scheme</strong>s include Workplace Based Assessments to provide feedback to the FoundationDentists and Projects.As a Foundation Dentist in <strong>Northern</strong> <strong>Ireland</strong> you will have support and assistance from a dedicated team of TrainingProgramme Directors andAdministrators attached to the schemes.
