If an employee experiences respirator or breathing difficulty during emergency activities, he or she
will immediately leave the work area. If no other employees are similarly equipped to provide
safety backup, the other remaining employee will also exit the work area.
Before entry into a work area a qualified worker will conduct an assessment of the hazards and
select appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). The assessment will also include a review
of flammability and no entry will be performed if the environment exceeds 10 per cent of the
Lower Explosive Limit (LEL). The Industrial Hygiene and Industrial Safety Groups may be
contacted in special situations or if additional questions exist.
