SHINE A SPOTLIGHT ON THE BOYS & GIRLS<br />
CLUBS OF GREATER SACRAMENTO<br />
Boys & Girls Clubs <strong>in</strong>spire and enable youth to<br />
“reach <strong>the</strong>ir full potential as productive, car<strong>in</strong>g,<br />
responsible citizens.” So it was a fi tt<strong>in</strong>g match<br />
that The Art Institute of California—Sacramento,<br />
a campus of Argosy University, which seeks<br />
to provide education that builds careers and<br />
transforms lives, and <strong>the</strong> Boys & Girls Clubs<br />
of Greater Sacramento worked toge<strong>the</strong>r on a<br />
class project.<br />
Graphic Design <strong>in</strong>structors Steve Holler and<br />
Holly Agundes comb<strong>in</strong>ed brand<strong>in</strong>g and design<br />
class objectives to provide <strong>the</strong>ir students,<br />
Graphic Design Bachelor of Science and<br />
Associate of Science candidates, <strong>with</strong> a real<strong>world</strong><br />
assignment for a worthy cause: provid<strong>in</strong>g<br />
ideas that would enhance <strong>the</strong> local club’s<br />
brand v<strong>is</strong>ibility, community awareness and<br />
market<strong>in</strong>g efforts.<br />
“We appreciate <strong>the</strong> chance to <strong>in</strong>volve <strong>our</strong><br />
students <strong>in</strong> community-based assignments<br />
that illustrate <strong>the</strong> quality and strength of <strong>our</strong><br />
market-focused educational program and serve<br />
a commendable organization,” Holler said.<br />
Students produced concepts for a poster<br />
represent<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> club’s v<strong>is</strong>ual identity, a<br />
bus<strong>in</strong>ess card design that follows a new<br />
stationery system, and a simple and v<strong>is</strong>ually<br />
unifi ed direct mail postcard. The teams also<br />
provided a concept for a new website that<br />
gives <strong>the</strong> v<strong>is</strong>ual idea and structure for <strong>the</strong><br />
home page and an approach to navigation. In<br />
addition to creative development, students<br />
participated <strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong>itial client analys<strong>is</strong> <strong>in</strong>terviews,<br />
brand review, v<strong>is</strong>ual audit, market position<strong>in</strong>g<br />
and client presentations.<br />
