Snowboards became <strong>the</strong> canvas for 15 students<br />
from The Art Institute of Colorado <strong>in</strong> March<br />
2012. The student chapter of <strong>the</strong> American<br />
Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA) at <strong>the</strong> college<br />
held a snowboard design competition and<br />
auction to benefi t <strong>the</strong> Denver Art Society and its<br />
m<strong>is</strong>sion to organize <strong>in</strong>dependent art<strong>is</strong>ts while<br />
provid<strong>in</strong>g venues for creative development.<br />
The nonprofi t organization hosts classes,<br />
performances, cultural events and peer<br />
collaboration for people 25 years of age and<br />
younger <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> La Alma, L<strong>in</strong>coln Park, Baker and<br />
Golden Triangle neighborhoods of Denver.<br />
While on d<strong>is</strong>play at Denver Pavilion <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
downtown area, <strong>the</strong> snowboards were available<br />
through a silent auction <strong>with</strong> a start<strong>in</strong>g price of<br />

SNOWBOARD<br />
$70 for each board. Denver residents “shredded”<br />
<strong>the</strong> d<strong>is</strong>play, “wip<strong>in</strong>g out” <strong>the</strong> students’ artwork<br />
dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> auction, which garnered more than<br />
$1,500 for <strong>the</strong> Denver Art Society and <strong>the</strong> AIGA<br />
student chapter at The Art Institute of Colorado.<br />
“I am so proud of <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>itiative and drive of<br />
my students,” said Chr<strong>is</strong> Chen Mahoney,<br />
academic department chair of Graphic Design<br />
at The Art Institute of Colorado. “They took<br />
<strong>the</strong> art <strong>the</strong>y are passionate about and created<br />
an entire community event around it. To top it<br />
off, <strong>the</strong>y were able to ass<strong>is</strong>t a vital nonprofi t <strong>in</strong><br />
<strong>our</strong> community.”<br />
