Basket Stamping Techniques for Fun & Profit Chan Geer<br />

Course Description: Chan has been perfecting the use of the basket stamp for many years <strong>and</strong> will be able<br />

to show students how to reinvent your basket stamping work <strong>and</strong> give it new life! Fun designs that can help<br />

your bottom line is all the excuse you need to register for this workshop.<br />

Materials to Bring: Basket stamps of your choice, bevelers, border tools, swivel knife, strop, ruler, mallet,<br />

stylus pencil, wing dividers, cutting board, straight edge, stamping surface, pencil <strong>and</strong> paper.<br />

Beginning Braiding: A 6-Str<strong>and</strong> Hatb<strong>and</strong> Joe Boyles<br />

Course Description: Students will braid a 6-str<strong>and</strong> hatb<strong>and</strong> out of kangaroo lace. You will learn a<br />

crown knot, 6-str<strong>and</strong> round <strong>and</strong> flat plait or braid, <strong>and</strong> also how to make a button to hold the hatb<strong>and</strong><br />

together.<br />

Materials to Bring: Lacing fid (if you have one; otherwise Joe will bring extras for sale), pen, highlighter,<br />

strong clamp to hold the braiding to the table (or a stitching pony).<br />

Burnishing Edges Bob Park<br />

Course Description: In this workshop/demonstration the student will be introduced to the various<br />

methods utilized to produce professional-quality edges. The demonstration will include the Weaver<br />

burnisher, the Fantastic Burnisher, various rotary burnishers <strong>and</strong> burnishing by h<strong>and</strong>. Examples of the<br />

various stages being demonstrated will be provided to the students. Additional topics will include dying<br />

edges <strong>and</strong> various methods for final finishing. If you want to learn to produce beautifully finished edges,<br />

this workshop is a must! Open Q & A at the end of the demonstration (time permitting). All skill levels<br />

welcome.<br />

Materials to Bring: Notepaper <strong>and</strong> pencil.<br />

Carving a Bald Eagle Portrait Jim Linnell<br />

Course Description: In this workshop, participants will learn all of the carving techniques used to<br />

create an 8”x10” portrait of a bald eagle. In the course of carving this piece, students will learn the<br />

basics of figure carving. Special emphasis will be given to the variety of feather textures on this majestic<br />

creature as well as the eyes, beak <strong>and</strong> background. As time permits, the workshop will conclude with<br />

a discussion of the coloring techniques. Some leather carving experience will be helpful. This will be<br />

a great workshop for someone wanting to further round out their leather carving knowledge. <strong>Leather</strong>,<br />

pattern <strong>and</strong> tracing material will be provided.<br />

Materials to Bring: Tooling surface (granite or marble), swivel knife, mallet, tracing stylus, medium<br />

to small modeling spoon, petal lifter <strong>and</strong> a fine hair blade. Also useful would be (these are Craftool<br />

numbers, but similar tools are o.k. too): A98, F902, F941, F976, F890, F891, F895, F898, F900, B202L,<br />

B202R <strong>and</strong> background texture tool of your choice, such as E294, M882, etc.<br />

Course Description: Students will make their own pair of shotgun chaps or chinks <strong>and</strong> study the basic<br />

patterns <strong>and</strong> how to make adjustments of the patterns to fit size <strong>and</strong> personal preference differences.<br />

Making the chaps/chinks, students will: 1) Lay out the patterns on one side of leather; 2) Design <strong>and</strong><br />

make the yokes <strong>and</strong> belts; 3) Cut out chap parts; 4) Assemble in the proper order; 5) Stitch; 6) Cut<br />

fringe <strong>and</strong> finish edges.<br />

Materials to Bring: Drawing paper, pencil, notebook, head knife, mallet, swivel knife, <strong>and</strong> stamping<br />

tools of your choice. Optional but highly recommended: Sheers or rotary cutter, #2 edger, straight<br />

edge <strong>and</strong> wing dividers.<br />
