Th is year, th an ks to a ge nerous
d onation from the S.R.C., th e Social
Commi tt ee ha s been able to sit
down and arrange fo r " extra-curricular
functions of a socia l nature for
the s tudent bo d y" witho ut keeping
an o bs e rvant and somew hat cautious
eye on finance.
Th e socia l yea r began very bright ly
w ith the We lco me Dance to the first
year s tuden ts . Co lou re d ligh ts illumi
nat ing the link s, a packed co m mon
room and a be a u tifu l night a ll
he lped to s tart the yea r off w ith a
'ba ng' .
No d oubt o ne of th e hi gh ligh ts of
socia l life came w ith the Bea tie

Afte r weeks of p reparation our
Win te r Ball fin all y moved into full
swing on Ju ne 21st at Moorabbin
Town Hall. Th e South Seas Theme
p rovided p len ty of co lo u r; no doubt
th e excellent attendance helped towards
the Ball' s s uccess.
Severa l groups ran fu nc tions during
the yea r a nd th ese p roved to be
very s uccessfu l.

A grea t deal of money, about £ 170,
w as rai sed and expended on such
wort hy o b jec tives as The Royal Ch ildren's
Ho spital Ap pea l a nd helping
to tra in a Seeing-Eye Dog.
We we re busy in assisting comm
u n ity effo rts by participating in th e
Asthm a Ap pe a l, Red Cro ss and the
l.eqe cv Appea l. All these activities,
a nd many more, add up to a s uc cessful
yea r in So cial Serv ice.
Bu t w ha t of ne xt yea r? 1965 will
provide many op po rtu nit ies for ex it
studen ts to do practical soci a l se rv ice
work in t he ir sc hools. If yo u a re
ac tive and show an interest the
ch ild ren w ill to o. Stud ents of 1965 ,
no d o ubt , wi ll be ch allenged in many
w ays to serve the co mm uni ty .
