ABRASIVE TRAP
ACCESSORIES AND CONTROLS
The air flow from every blast machine to it’s dust collector must be controlled to minimize abrasive consumption and
maximize removal of contaminants and broken down abrasive. Balancing these requirements may make the use of an
abrasive trap or cyclone necessary as part of the ventilation piping.
Under normal conditions an abrasive trap or a cyclone should only be used in the main cabinet vent from a blast
machine. It should not be used to handle air flow from separators or elevator systems.
The trap is essentially a baffled expansion chamber that will allow incoming air containing usable abrasive particles
to slow down. This will let the usable abrasive particles fall out of the air stream and with proper location, drain the
abrasive back to the machine. Different cabinet vent outlet designs will require different size traps. Different abrasive
sizes and material will also affect the trap selection. Contact your customer service representative with your machine
serial number and abrasive type and size for a quotation on an abrasive trap.
