INFORMATION PRODUCT SPECIFICATION<br />
Regulations<br />
The Personal Protective Equipment at Work<br />
Regulations 1992, regulation 4 requires eye and face<br />
protection to be worn in hazardous areas.<br />
Regulation 4 stipulates that employers must provide<br />
suitable PPE to employees who are exposed to risks<br />
associated with their health and safety.<br />
Standards<br />
Under Standard EN166 the basic understanding<br />
of levels of protection are as follows:<br />
l Optical Class 1 = Best quality<br />
l Optical Class 2 = Medium quality<br />
l Optical Class 3 = Low quality<br />
Lens and frame markings<br />
Symbols showing resistance to high speed particles:<br />
S = Increased robustness<br />
F = Low energy impact (45m/s)<br />
B = Medium energy impact (120m/s)<br />
A = High energy impact (190m/s)<br />
The figures above serve as a guide and we advise<br />
you to request a copy of our full marking<br />
specification details in order to learn more about<br />
safety spectacle standards.<br />
Assessment of hazards<br />
An accurate assessment is required of the anticipated<br />
hazards under Section 6 of PPE at Work Regulations<br />
to determine the type of hazard and suitability<br />
of the eye/face protection to be used.<br />

EN166 Specification for personal eye protection,<br />
applies to all types of eye protection used against<br />
various hazards, as encountered in industry,<br />
laboratories, educational establishments, DIY<br />
activities etc, which are likely to damage the eye or<br />
impair vision, with the exception of nuclear radiation,<br />
x-rays, laser beams and low temperature infrared (IR)<br />
radiation emitted low radiation sources.<br />
EN172 Specifies the scale numbers, transmittance<br />
requirements for sunglare filters for industrial use,<br />
including recognition of signal lights.<br />

2. Take your prescription form to your preferred optician,<br />
who will carry out your eye test and send the forms<br />
back to the manufacturer's address.<br />
3. In the manufacture of your required safety specs, we test them for vision,<br />
quality and approvals - then send them back to your<br />
local optician (who carried out your eye test).<br />
4. Your optician will contact you to arrange an<br />
appointment to check the clarity and correctness<br />
of vision of your spectacles.<br />
5. You then collect spectacles from your optician and wear them.<br />
