Training in the proper use and care of respirators
has been mandatory in the COSHH (Control of
Substances Hazardous to Health) regulations since
1989. The 2002 revision of the COSHH regulations
and the Approval Code of Practice (ACoP) now
require that fit testing of respiratory protective
equipment (RPE) be carried out. Only respirators
that are loose fitting and rely on airflow through the
device are exempt e.g. powered helmets.
There are two test methods - Qualitative and Quantitative. For tight fitting respirators
qualitative testing is acceptable. Betafit has developed this Qualitative Face Fit Test Kit
(ref.QLFT1) to enable wearers of particulate half masks or disposable respirators to be fit
tested correctly and economically. The kit works by the

Gas Detection
MiniWarn is a lightweight portable gas detector, which
monitors up to 4 gases simultaneously. Over 20
interchangeable plug-in sensors and 2 catalytic sensors
allow measurement of more than 40 different gases. it has

The PA91 Plus breathing apparatus is a
streamlined, lightweight design, ideal for use
when working in environments where smoke
or toxic gases are present or where there is
a lack of oxygen. The carrying system has
been orthopaedically designed and follows

backstrain and fatigue. The cylinder strap is
