It’s a jungle out there
A lot of businesses are tough, but the blues is a jungle full of
animals. And I don’t just mean the party animals at your local
blues club!
When I flip through my contact list, I often smile as I feel
as if I am walking through a zoo. In the blues one can find an
Alligator and even a Blind Pig, with their hilarious porcine logo.
But that’s just the beginning. On the blues road you must keep
an eye out for a Yellow Dog, a Fat Possum, a Blind Raccoon, a
Blue Armadillo, an Iguana, a Blind Chihuahua, a Green Monkey,
a Wolf, even a Bear Family! And don’t run over a Blue Skunk
or a Smelly Cat! We all know that any of them can end up as
Road Kill, but when you are in the South (of France) make sure
you don’t step on a Dixie Frog or a Screaming Lizard or even
a Tadfrog!
But if you are sneaking through the Blue Corn to get to the
Black Market for some Catfood, watch out for the Black Hen
and the Rat Pak. If you hear a “Grr,” watch out, it could be Thirty
Tigers, maybe you should head on back to the Red House. And
if you are out on the Stony Plain, look up and you might see an
Eagle, a Raven, or a Blackbird. You might even see Kool Kat or
a rare Rip Cat.
4 BLUES REVUE
If you commit the Perfect Crime you might just end up with
some Proper Records or even Criminal Records. Of course, one
of my crimes would be forgetting to mention one of my friends,
so I better stop there.
It’s almost festival season and we’ve got the calendar out
and are burning up the airwaves talking to our friends about
where we are going when. Gonna try and make a couple of new
ones this year. Friends and festivals!
If you can, make to Memphis on May 9 for the Blues Music
Awards, the biggest night of the blues. You won’t regret it!
So, as winter winds down, it is time to get back into boogie
mode. The time of T-shirts, shorts, sandals, and road trips is
right around the corner and it couldn’t be soon enough for this
blues traveler.
So tip your wait staff, buy CDs from the band, take a kid to
a festival, always put a dollar in the open guitar case on the
street, and don’t forget to take care because it’s a jungle out
there in Blues World!
