However, examination of Pascoe’s type species has revealed that the species described by Pajni & Sood are not in the same subfamily. Delete India from Distribution. p. 193 (1) Rhinocyllus Germar, 1817. “New Zealand(I)” should be added to the Distribution, as should “Australia (I)” (see Zimmerman 1992, pl. 573). p. 193 (2) Mesoptiliini Lacordaire, 1863. The synonym = Mesoptiliinae; Blackwelder, 1947-833 should be replaced with = Mesoptiliinae; Dalla Torre & Voss, 1937-3 p. 194 (1) Under Magdalidini Pascoe, 1870, before the synonym Magdalinidae Gistel, 1856-371, the following new synonym should be added: = Scardamyctisidae Gistel, 1848c-[3] [Scardamyctes Gistel] This is the oldest available name for the subfamily named in our Catalogue Mesoptiliinae Lacordaire, 1863 and for the tribe Magdalidini Pascoe, 1870. However, we do not think that another change would benefit the nomenclature of such a complex and badly understood group, so we prefer to keep it as a nomen oblitum and will apply to the ICZN for its suppression if needed. p. 194 (2) MOLYTINA Schoenherr, 1823. The type species genus is misspelled as Dorytosominus. p. 201 (1) Euderini Lacordaire, 1863. The publication date of genus and type species should be changed to 1907b, following Duncan (1937). p. 201 (3) HYLOBIINA W. Kirby, 1837. The second synonym should be replaced by: = Hylobiidae; Gistel, 1848d-[2] p. 207 (1) Phoenicobatini Champion, 1914. The following synonym should be added: = Phoenicobatini; Kuschel, 1987-13 p. 207 (2) Chamaepsephis Broun, 1893. Stephen Thorpe has drawn attention to a further three species of the genus published in Part VII of the “Manual of New Zealand Coleoptera” (the genus being published in Part V). The two parts were published together, so the designation as type species by monotypy cannot stand. C. aurisetifera Broun should be considered type species by Subsequent Designation (Alonso- Zarazaga & Lyal, 1999-207). p. 207 (3) Halliellara Schenkling, 1929. The type species for Halliella Broun has been designated: Halliella squamipes Broun, 1917; SD: Broun, 1921b-641. p. 207 (4) Phemus Broun, 1893. Stephen Thorpe has pointed out that P. rufipes Broun, 1893 was described in the same publication, and suggests that P. scabralis Broun should not be taken as type species by monotypy. In fact Phemus was described in Part V of Broun’s “Manual of New Zealand Coleoptera” and P. rufipes in Part VI. Although these were published together they were apparently written at different times. However, the logic of their publication in one volume leads to the dismissal of a type species designated by monotypy. Broun (1913-116) referred to P. scabralis (by its number, 2143) as “the type species”, and this is now taken as a subsequent designation. p. 207 (5) Rystheus Broun, 1893.
