of 100 prominent Anglo-American financiers and selected scientists,<br />

industrialists, and economists of <strong>the</strong> world. 88<br />

The Trilateral Commission<br />

The Trilateral Commission was David Rockefeller's idea<br />

originally.<br />

Against <strong>the</strong> background of American retreat from Vietnam, a new<br />

Commission had been proposed 89 by David Rockefeller (Chairman of <strong>the</strong><br />

CFR since 1970 and now a Director of <strong>the</strong> Federal Reserve Bank of New<br />

York) and Zbigniew Brzezinski, a "Rockefeller" advisor and specialist in<br />

international affairs, after <strong>the</strong>y attended <strong>the</strong> Bilderberg conference of 1971<br />

which led to President Nixon announcing great changes in international<br />

policy. The US was in economic difficulties, and pressured Japan and<br />

Western Europe into relaxing trade barriers. The new policy towards China<br />

was implemented, allowing <strong>the</strong> prospect of US trade with China, where<br />

"Rockefellers" owned oil.<br />

In <strong>the</strong> early 1970s, during <strong>the</strong> creation of <strong>the</strong> Trilateral Commission,<br />

David Rockefeller spent much of his time flying round <strong>the</strong> globe in his<br />

private Grumman Gulfstream jet visiting world leaders to give advice. He<br />

kept a card index of 35,000 "personal friends" in high places round <strong>the</strong><br />

world. 90 Rockefeller's power was now so great that it was said he was no<br />

longer subject to customs or passport controls (and according to a CFR<br />

journalist, "hardly pauses for traffic lights"). The result of his efforts was<br />

<strong>the</strong> creation of <strong>the</strong> Trilateral Commission.<br />

This had been proposed at <strong>the</strong> Bilderberg meeting of 1972, when<br />

Brzezinski suggested 91 <strong>the</strong> creation of an International Commission of<br />

Peace and Prosperity, which later became <strong>the</strong> Trilateral Commission<br />

because it focused on North America, Western Europe, and Japan. David<br />

Rockefeller and <strong>the</strong> Kettering and Ford Foundations funded <strong>the</strong> new<br />

body. 92<br />

The Trilateral Commission was an offshoot of <strong>the</strong> Bilderberg Group,<br />

<strong>the</strong> CFR, RIIA, and IPR (Institute of Pacific Relations), which were in turn
