Summary w o . 1190<br />
1 . SOUTHWESTERN ISLANDS - on the mast flank of tha Okinawa front line, our forces<br />
established a salient approx. 1000 yds. west of Yonabaru airdrome 1 May<br />
with the forward elements due west of the Southern end of the strip. New<br />
territory seized included positions on the northern slopes of Gaja will.<br />

Effective support to forces ashore was provided 2 May by Naval surface<br />
units including battleships cruisers and destroyers in addition to aircraft<br />
from, land bases, fast carrier g'oups and escort carriers. The neu.traliza.tic<br />
of Sakishima airdromes was continued 1 May.<br />
}. FORMOSA - Additional strikes on Formosa, targets 1 May involved 39 B-24's, 18 p-25*s<br />
■ and 8 p-51's. Of these, 14- §-24’s, 6 B-25's hit the primary objective, Kag<br />
airdrome, but others attacked alternative objectives due to bad weather,<br />
yesterday*s Summary No. 1189 reported 2 B-24»s hitting Tragi and 37 tj-2 4 * s<br />
on alternative objectives.<br />
a ight 1-2 »Tay Kiirun was raided by 2 B-24’s.<br />
Reconnaissance 2 May saw only 3 sea trucks anchored in Triirun parlor<br />
but otherwise no shipping around Formosa shores.<br />
3 . CHINA-FRENCH INTO CHINA-COAST - wight 1-2. Kay Shanghai ©il storage facilities<br />
and a shin At the mouth of the Yangtze river were bombed by 2 p-24's with<br />
unobserved results. The same night Kiungshan airdrome on Uainan was<br />
bombed by b-24?s with 16 x 500 lb. bombs after conducting a negative<br />
shipping search.<br />
Reconnaissance 2 foyjj revealed nb shipping except 6 coasters and 1<br />
sea truck in Vulin harbor in addition to 3 coasters off r>ao °sint Jacques,<br />
visibility over China coast was poor.<br />
Paigon shipping was again ait-eked by Mitchells at midday 2 way, escorted<br />
by 14 p-3$»s, but results are not yet available.<br />
PHILIPPINES<br />
|(1) T,u--,on t.and Activities - Moving «. fr-n Baguio along Kennon Poad our forces<br />
formed a junction on 2 May -ith the other forces which had been proceeding<br />
clowly up the road. Rapid advands continued p. and ,o.E. of .Raguio securing<br />
Antamok (7000 yds. m.o.p. of Baguio) and nearing Itogon on 2 May.<br />
Desperate enemy resistance and counter-attacks are being experienced<br />
in the Balete Pass area.<br />
Air support for land operations on 2 way involved 30 B-25*s, about<br />
90 A_20's, 42. B-24's and 355 fighter-bombers (175 P-51's,lll p-38»s, 69<br />
p-47's.).<br />
'2) Davao Area - A. n . 2 April our forces crossed the pa.vao river and entered ravao<br />
City against light opposition. Since the landing at Parang, an advance of<br />
125 miles has been achieved in 16 days.<br />
An advance of another 3 miles worth from Kabacan along oayre Pighway<br />
was achieved, on 2 May against light resistance.<br />
On the N. coast of Mindanao, guerillas have secured Buena Vista,<br />
putuan Bay and. Opol, all in the vicinity of Cagayan.<br />
Strong air support by SBD's is being provided our forces in the Davao<br />
area.<br />
(3) Palawan - Early a.M. 2 way at least 2 enemy aircraft approached Puerto ^-rincessa<br />
but no attack was made* approach and withdrawal, /ere probably from and to<br />
the South-respectively.<br />
