Duration: Three sessions, 30 minutes each<br />

<strong>The</strong> children will respond to a series of events in <strong>the</strong> story using <strong>the</strong>ir bodies.<br />

Method<br />

Children use <strong>the</strong>ir imaginations to react in a real way, supported by craft <strong>and</strong> creative communication<br />

activities.<br />

Session 1: Warm Up Activity<br />

Make yourself as big as you can, as small as you can, as tall as you can, as wide as you can.<br />

Main Activity<br />

• Re-tell <strong>the</strong> story from <strong>the</strong> performance of <strong>The</strong> <strong>Elves</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> Shoemaker to <strong>the</strong> children.<br />

• Ask <strong>the</strong> children how very old people st<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> move around. Ask <strong>the</strong> children to move<br />

around <strong>the</strong> space as if <strong>the</strong>y were <strong>the</strong> old man <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> old woman.<br />

• <strong>The</strong> old man <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> old woman were cold. It was wintertime <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong>y had no wood for<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir fire. What clo<strong>the</strong>s do you put on to keep you warm when you play outside in <strong>the</strong><br />

winter? List <strong>the</strong> children’s ideas.<br />

• Ask <strong>the</strong>m to pretend <strong>the</strong>y are in bed, <strong>the</strong>n <strong>the</strong>y get up <strong>and</strong> get dressed to go outside to play<br />

in <strong>the</strong> snow. Ask <strong>the</strong>m to show how <strong>the</strong>y put on all <strong>the</strong> clo<strong>the</strong>s <strong>the</strong>y need to keep warm<br />

Follow Up Activity<br />

Children cut out/colour <strong>the</strong> clo<strong>the</strong>s <strong>the</strong>y would wear to play in <strong>the</strong> snow in winter - sheets provided.<br />
