Group Work<br />

<strong>The</strong>se suggestions provide you with <strong>the</strong> opportunity to organise your groups according to whe<strong>the</strong>r<br />

children need support in applying <strong>the</strong>ir previous learning, can work independently, or as an opportunity for<br />

you to teach a new skill to a group.<br />

Group 1: Children use ICT confidently to decide <strong>the</strong> type of record <strong>the</strong>y will create to show <strong>the</strong> range of<br />

types of shoe fixings <strong>and</strong> complete <strong>and</strong> print it independently.<br />

Group 2: Children use ICT with support to create bar graph/pie chart/pictogram to show <strong>the</strong> range of<br />

types of shoe fixings <strong>and</strong> print it.<br />

Group 3: Children need instruction/practice in designing <strong>and</strong> drawing accurately, particularly in relation to<br />

<strong>the</strong> vertical axis <strong>and</strong> scale on a bar graph to show <strong>the</strong> range of types of shoe fixings.<br />

Group 4: Children need instruction/practice in completing a Carroll diagram - criteria might be black <strong>and</strong><br />

not black, shiny <strong>and</strong> not shiny.<br />

Group 5: Children need instruction/practice in completing a Venn diagram - criteria might be black <strong>and</strong><br />

not black, <strong>and</strong> not shiny.<br />

Extension: Children could use <strong>the</strong> information <strong>the</strong>y have collected <strong>and</strong> record it in a different form.<br />

Plenary: Bring <strong>the</strong> children toge<strong>the</strong>r with <strong>the</strong>ir completed records <strong>and</strong> ask <strong>the</strong>m what sorts of shoes<br />

<strong>the</strong>y can see from <strong>the</strong> information <strong>the</strong>y collected are most popular. Return <strong>the</strong>ir shoes!<br />

Success Criteria<br />

• Children collect, group, sort <strong>and</strong> record <strong>the</strong>ir findings.<br />

• Children use <strong>the</strong>ir recorded findings to draw conclusions from <strong>the</strong> information <strong>the</strong>y have<br />

collected.<br />

• Children apply previous learning in <strong>the</strong> independent creation of <strong>the</strong>ir chosen method of<br />

recording information.<br />
