Shaw Workshops Learn the tricks of the trade in hands-on, small group workshops led by Shaw artists and artisans. Registration includes workshop, materials, lunch, parking and a performance. Playwriting June 20-22 with Morwyn Brebner, Playwright An Actor Prepares July 19 - 20 with Blair Williams, Acting Ensemble Manners of the Mandate, Parts I & II August 5 - 6 with Guy Bannerman and Sharry Flett, Acting Ensemble Finishing Touches August 25 - 29 with Ramona Crawford, Cutter How do you begin writing a story for the theatre, develop its themes, and successfully structure ideas? What makes a play engaging, cohesive, and fluid? Explore helpful techniques and share experiences. Schedule: FRI: 6pm to 9pm; SAT: 10am to 4pm including a performance of The President and a postshow chat with actors; SUN: 10am to 4pm. $240 Learn how actors create characters from page to stage. Explore playwrights’ ideas, directors’ interpretations and designers visions. Script in hand, experience how theatrical choices made “around the table” are translated into action on stage. Schedule: SAT: 9:30am to 4pm including a performance of The President and a post-show chat with actors; SUN: 9:30am to 4pm. $199 An introduction to the social history and etiquette of the mandate period (1856 -1950). You will learn to wear period dress, handle accessories, and follow the rules for living in the world of a period play. Part II builds on the content of Part I. Schedule: TUES (part I): 9am to 2pm, including an English tea party. $99; WED (part II): 9am to 5pm, including a 2pm performance of Getting Married and a post-show chat with actors. $125; PARTS 1 AND 2: $199 Learn couturier finishes for difficult fabrics – from chiffon to velvet – from the experts. Ideal for experienced home sewers who want to give their sewn garments a professional finish. Includes hand- and machine-sewing. Schedule: Five days, 9:30am to 4:30pm, and an 8pm performance of The Stepmother (Thursday). $495 Shaw Symposium Friday to Sunday, July 25 to 27 A co-project of the Shaw Festival and the International Shaw Society. Scholars and fans of Bernard Shaw join together to hear academic papers and participate in discussions with Shaw company members. Opening reception, A+ tickets to Getting Married (Friday 8pm), and Mrs Warren’s Profession (Saturday 8pm), picnic lunch and sessions on Sunday are included. Registration: $199; $215 for non-ISS members. 5FREE Ways to Explore The Shaw > Pre-show Chats Every evening at 7:30pm on the Members Terrace at the Festival Theatre, a company member gives a special introduction to that evening’s play. For all performances (except those marked O) May 17 to August 10. > Tuesday Q & A On Tuesday evenings following the performances (except those marked P or O), in all three theatres, we invite audience members to remain in the theatre for a question-andanswer session with members of the company. > Saturday Conversations On selected Saturdays during the summer, from 11:30am to 12:15pm on the Members Terrace at the Festival Theatre, the public can participate in discussions with members of the company. May 10, June 14 and August 2. > Sunday Coffee Concerts On specific Sundays, our Music Department gives free concerts at the Festival Theatre. The concerts begin at 11am and last approximately 45 minutes. May 11 and August 3. > Village Fair and Fête On Monday August 4, from noon to 5pm, members of the Shaw company hold their annual fair in the gardens of the Festival Theatre. Proceeds go to designated charities. Backstage Tours for Everyone Tuesdays, Saturdays, Sundays June 1 to November 2, 11am $5 Learn about the history and unique operations of this repertory theatre company and the many facets of theatre production during an hour-long guided tour of the Festival Theatre.
