Home School <strong>Groups</strong><br />

1. PATH-23 (Parents As Teachers At Home – Psalm 23:3)<br />

Bloomingdale, Boonton, Butler, Kinnelon, Haskell, Oakland, Pequannock, Pompton Lakes,<br />

Pompton Plains, Riverdale, Wanaque, Wayne, West Milford<br />

PATH-23 is an open Christian support group with approximately 90 members. PATH-23<br />

attracts families along the Route 23 corridor. We are interested in expanding the impact <strong>of</strong><br />

Christ's kingdom in northern New Jersey, beginning with the godly development and Christian<br />

disciplining <strong>of</strong> our children. Members are required to contribute to the success <strong>of</strong> PATH-23.<br />

The more individual families contribute their time and ideas, the more varied, numerous, and<br />

helpful the <strong>of</strong>ferings <strong>of</strong> the group. Some highlights <strong>of</strong> past activities and programs include:<br />

weekly Activities Day, full music program for band, strings, piano and choir students, concert<br />

performances, an academic co-op [CALVARY], Fine Arts Night, Iowa basic skills testing, Field<br />

Day, Young Friends Club, Ski club, curriculum highlights & fair, and field trips. We hold<br />

support meetings at local churches or members’ homes. A calendar <strong>of</strong> events is available to<br />

members. At our support meetings we discuss successes and struggles in our homeschooling<br />

venture, share resources <strong>of</strong> interest, mentor families as they begin homeschooling, and pray<br />

for one another.<br />

2. PHOEBE (Pascack <strong>Homeschool</strong>ers Organized to Enjoy Better Education)<br />

Ridge, Ridgewood, River Vale, Washington Township, Westwood, Woodcliff Lake, Bronx, NY;<br />

About PHOEBE: Located in the Pascack Valley, PHOEBE is a small support group with about<br />

15 families. <strong>Our</strong> activities include bi-monthly "Moms' Nights Out" at different homes, Family<br />

Dinner at the beginning <strong>of</strong> each new year, and other sporadic events including park<br />

days. PHOEBE responds to the needs <strong>of</strong> its members each year. In the past, we've had a<br />

highly active membership and consequently, a highly active calendar <strong>of</strong> events. In recent<br />

years, our membership has been less active and consequently, so has our<br />

calendar. PHOEBE wel<strong>com</strong>es its members to initiate any activities that would be helpful or<br />

beneficial to their children and the group.<br />

3. HOPE (Holding Onto Purposeful Education)<br />

About HOPE: Centered in eastern Bergen County, the HOPE LSG membership is 30 families<br />

on average. Benefits <strong>of</strong> membership include support meetings, field trips, park days and other<br />

group activities. <strong>Support</strong> meetings are open to members and non-members. We have many<br />

opportunities for assisting others and all we ask is for members to have a willing heart to help.<br />

4. HEARTS (Home Educated And Ready To Serve)<br />

About HEARTS: We are one <strong>of</strong> the largest local support groups <strong>of</strong> the New Jersey Home<br />

Schoolers Association serving a vast range radiating from the Hawthorne area. <strong>Our</strong> HEARTS<br />

acronym stands for Home Educated And Ready To Serve and it is our goal to not only serve<br />

our families through home schooling, but to also bless the local <strong>com</strong>munity by also serving<br />

them. The origin <strong>of</strong> our name was that <strong>of</strong> a servant's heart that wanted to show Christ's love to<br />

those in and around our local home schooling <strong>com</strong>munity. We encourage our members to<br />

serve in our LSG in their gifted areas and to participate in generating the activities that we <strong>of</strong>fer<br />

the group. The events and activities that HEARTS members <strong>of</strong>fer are things such as the<br />

NJHSA Choir & Drama programs, Teens Night Out, Square Dances, Community Christmas<br />

Caroling, The NJHSA Spelling Bee, Sports Nights, Family Hiking Days, and so much more!<br />

5. BRIDGES (Being Responsible In the Development <strong>of</strong> Godly Educated Students)<br />

About BRIDGES: BRIDGES is an active support group whose purpose is encouraging one<br />

another to “Train up a child in the way he should go; and when he is old, he will not depart<br />

from it.” (Proverbs 22:6) Activities include: Opening Picnic, various field trips, Christmas Party,<br />

Riflery Club, Fine Arts Festival. We also, from time to time, have cooperative classes in a wide<br />

variety <strong>of</strong> subjects and life skills. As we study and fellowship, we want to honor God as<br />

Creator and Lord <strong>of</strong> all! We want God’s Word to be the standard <strong>of</strong> Truth. For “…the goal <strong>of</strong><br />

our instruction is love from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.” (1<br />

6. HEAP (<strong>Homeschool</strong>ing in Essex And Passaic)<br />

Belleville, Bloomfield, Clifton, Montclair, Newark, Nutley, West, South East & just Orange


About HEAP: HEAP is a large and diverse group <strong>of</strong> homeschoolers spread over a wide<br />

geographical area – en<strong>com</strong>passing families in central and northern New Jersey as well as<br />

New York City. Average membership is about 40 families. <strong>Our</strong> theme is Servanthood and<br />

Flexibility, reminding us that our goal is to serve one another while being flexible in our<br />

expectations and willingness to contribute. We have one General Meeting each October to<br />

wel<strong>com</strong>e and inform new members, answer questions, and present goals for the year. We<br />

may mothly meetings, the theme <strong>of</strong> which varies depending on needs, suggestions, or<br />

interests. We also host the NJHSA Opening Day Picnic South, held at Brookdale Park in<br />

Bloomfield.<br />

7. HUB (<strong>Homeschool</strong>ers United Biblically)<br />

Boonton, Denville, Kinnelon, Montville, Mountain Lakes, Morris Plains, Parsippany, Rockaway<br />

About HUB: HUB strives to be <strong>Homeschool</strong>ers United Biblically. We have some awesome<br />

support meetings – just parents talking heart-to-heart in encouragement <strong>of</strong> one another, as<br />

well as having some truly educational experiences when we have guest speakers. There is<br />

always something fun going on in HUB. Fun and learning go hand-in-hand whenever HUB<br />

goes to visit Fairview Lake Environmental Center. Trips to the Crayola Factory and the Morris<br />

County Planetarium are always well-attended. We also have fabulous turnouts, great food,<br />

and new friends at our Opening Picnic and the HUB Christmas Party.<br />

9. CHS (Calvary Home Schoolers)<br />

West Essex, Eastern Morris Counties<br />

Most <strong>of</strong> Calvary's fourteen families live along the I-280 and I-80 corridors. <strong>Our</strong> group was<br />

started by John and Margie Marchetti, one <strong>of</strong> NJHSA's founding couples. This year CHS will<br />

again host the National Geographic Geography Bee for NJHSA members.<br />

8. Sussex County Christian <strong>Homeschool</strong>ers<br />

About SCCH: Sussex County Christian Home Schoolers, Inc. (SCCHS, Inc.) is a non-pr<strong>of</strong>it<br />

group <strong>of</strong> Christian home schoolers who live in Sussex County, New Jersey and surrounding<br />

areas. We are parents and guardians who are <strong>com</strong>mitted to educating our own children in a<br />

Christian environment and meet regularly for our mutual support in this endeavor. While<br />

respecting the autonomy <strong>of</strong> each family school, our purpose is to share ideas, materials,<br />

experiences, information, to <strong>of</strong>fer social and <strong>com</strong>prehensive learning opportunities for our<br />

children, and support member families. Collectively, we represent many denominations, but<br />

we intend that all <strong>of</strong> our activities and interactions be clearly consistent with Biblical principles.

8. Skylands <strong>Homeschool</strong>ing Community<br />

About SHC: SHC is a support/play/early-learning group for parents and homeschoolers in the<br />

NJ Skylands area (Warren, Morris, Hunterdon, Sussex counties). Children are primarily<br />

preschool through 1st grade age, although all ages are wel<strong>com</strong>e. <strong>Our</strong> mission is to share<br />

teaching ideas, help one another with concerns, and encourage friendships for our children.<br />

We meet once a week and organize field trips and educational activities.<br />

About WHCS: We are a Christian support groups <strong>of</strong> about 25 members located primarily in<br />

Warren County but have members in Hunterdon County and PA. We have monthly support<br />

group meetings and a monthly newsletter plus other activities throughout the year.<br />

12. Education Network Of Christian <strong>Homeschool</strong>ers in New Jersey (ENOCH)<br />

About ENOCH: ENOCH <strong>of</strong> NJ is a non-pr<strong>of</strong>it volunteer organization<br />

14. <strong>Homeschool</strong>ers <strong>Support</strong> Network (HSN)<br />

About HSN: We are simply a group <strong>of</strong> people in the Trenton / Princeton metropolitan area who<br />

are teaching our children at home. We network together for field trips, ideas, support, activities,


curriculum, and just for fun. In fact, we all love our children and enjoy our families enough to<br />

make this rather large <strong>com</strong>mitment.<br />

15. Loving Education At Home (LEAH)<br />

About LEAH: is a New York statewide organization dedicated to supporting and promoting<br />

home education. <strong>One</strong> <strong>of</strong> our major purposes is to support a statewide network <strong>of</strong> mutual<br />

support groups by and for home educating parents.<br />

16. PENN NJ<br />

About PENN NJ: We have about 30 member families from the Warren Cty/Mt.Bethel, PA area.<br />

We meet weekly for a gym class for the children with a paid instructor. (nominal fee for<br />

member families) Moms meet during gym class for support and fellowship.<br />
