In addition to printing the collection, we are printing
the Sunday and Holy Day collections from the previous month and for the fiscal
year to date as well as budgeted amount needed for us to meet both our expenses
& mortgage payments. Mortgage payments are $41,500 per month (interest and
principal).
The Archdiocese loaned us the money to start our parish and build our facilities on
the basis of a commitment to Stewardship by the parish. We thank everyone whose

MARRIAGES St. Stephen Parish welcomes the celebration of the weddings of both
registered parishioners and the children of registered parishioners. Information is available

PASTORAL CARE OF THE SICK can be arranged for the sick, elderly and handicapped
desiring Communion by calling the parish office.

This week our church will celebrate
two feasts that speak to a key life
question for all human beings – the
mystery of death and life. On
Thursday, we will celebrate the Feast
of All Saints. On Friday, we will
celebrate the Feast of All Souls. These
two feasts celebrate our ties in Christ
to an important part of the Lord’s
people – those who have died and
have gone before us in faith. These
feasts speak to us as we face the
ultimate human challenge for all
people – facing the reality of death.
We cherish life, as we should. But
death is real and always a painful
reality. Whether death is sudden or
comes after a long, debilitating illness,
whether death comes to someone who
has lived a full life or to a person who
dies far too young, it always brings us
face to face with our own mortality.
These feasts of All Saints and All Souls
speak to the question that arises
whenever we encounter death: “Is
that all there is, or is there something
more?” These feasts celebrate the light
that the resurrection of Jesus brings to
our facing of death. Both bring the
mix of sadness and joyful hope that
comes as Christians encounter death.
We always feel loss when death
touches our lives, but we also find
comfort in God’s revelation that life
triumphs over death where Christ is
present. All Saints Day celebrates the
triumph over death and the fullness of
life in Christ of the countless saints not
in the church’s official calendar of
saints. It is the feast of people of faith
and love that we have all been blessed
to know in our lives. It is a day to
remember the people who have gone
before us and whose faith and love
have inspired us. Devotion to the
saints as models for Christian living is
a valuable practice for a Catholic
spirituality. The saints who we honor
on All Saints Day along with the
named saints on the Church calendar
are people from all walks of life and
varied sorts of talents and
temperaments. None were perfect
people, but all were people who kept
trying to live faithfully as followers of
the Lord Jesus. As such, they are
models for us and can help to inspire
us on our Christian journeys.

The Feast of All Souls reminds us of
the ties we have in prayer to those
who have gone before us. It is a day
when we especially pray for our
deceased loved ones. It is also a day to
remember that they pray for us. The
bonds of love that we have in Christ
go beyond death. I invite you to join
us, if you can, for Mass on these
special days. The Mass schedule is
elsewhere in the bulletin. Let’s all
pray for an appreciation of the role of
the saints – both the officially named
saints and the countless unnamed
saints who we honor in this week – as
models of faith for us.

October 28, 2012 Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time:
In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus ask Bartimaeus: “What do you want me to do for
you?” And he answers, “Master, I want to see.” Let us ask Jesus for the grace to
“see” our brothers and sisters who are poor and lonely. This month, through your
gifts, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul was able to bring God’s love and mercy
to several families, providing bags of food, and help with utility and rent
bills, etc. Thank You!

“GOD’S BIG HUG” PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY
Our next meeting will be Thursday
Nov. 1 at 10am in room 125/126 of the
parish offices. Fourteen members
attended the October meeting. 14 shawls
and 29 chemo caps were donated by
members. The Cancer Awareness Mass in
October was a huge success in that we
distributed 57 shawls to people visiting
our display table in the narthex. It was
very emotional for some as Deacon Ken
asked the ladies to step forward at the end
of mass to be recognized by the
NEW ALTAR SERVER TRAINING SESSION
Boys and girls fourth grade and above who
want to serve weekend masses, holydays,
weddings and other special events are
asked to come to an altar server training
session on Saturday Nov. 17 at
11:30am in the Church. This will be the
only training session until the spring. This
session should last until 1pm. Parents are
welcome to stay and observe the training.
Also, let us know what mass your child
congregation. There was a rousing
spontaneous standing ovation from
parishioners recognizing our ministry to
the parish. This tradition of handing out
shawls at the Cancer Awareness Mass will
only grow in the future. It was noted that
those making shawls to please keep our
measurements of 25” x 60” as our
guideline. This size makes for a perfect fit
for those receiving shawls. Please come to
our next meeting and find out what we
are all about. Donations of yarn as well as
would like to serve for the next schedule
at the training session when they fill out
the registration form. Please consider the
Saturday 5pm mass or the 7am, 8:30am,
10am and 11:30am Sunday Masses, we
need servers for all masses. Thank you for
considering serving our parish as an Altar

Rachel Swallow, a 12 year old who has
been a student in our Religious Education
program for the past 5 years started
exhibiting common flu-like symptoms on
March 20, 2012. On March 26, Rachel
took an entirely unexpected turn for the
worse. After going to sleep for the night of
March 25, Rachel’s mother Kris went to
check on her and found Rachel
unresponsive.

Sunday Mass as the second part of the 5
year Pastoral Plan of the archdiocese. The
primary focus of this year is to reclaim the
vital significance of our weekly worship by
motivating all to participate and to foster a
deeper appreciation of the value of the
Eucharist.
To that end we are offering two
opportunities to embrace a passionate and
knowing Eucharistic faith. The first will be
a reflection morning held on Saturday,

Ma się plecy!
W naszym świecie mówi się, że ktoś ma plecy, kiedy może dużo załatwić dla siebie dzięki komuś innemu. W
świecie Boga jest zupełnie odwrotnie.
Jezus jest arcykapłanem, ale też sługą cierpiącym, zmiażdżonym i udręczonym, dźwigającym nasze
nieprawości, jak służący, który idzie za panem z bagażami wypełnionymi jego brudnymi ubraniami. Bóg stał
się sługą, aby ludzie stali się panami wieczności. Każdy, kto chce panować w wieczności, na tym świecie musi
służyć, poświęcać się, dźwigać ciężary innych na plecach, pić to, co inni „nawarzyli”. Ten, kto jest kimś na
tym świecie, będzie niczym na tamtym. W Misznie jest napisane, że zazdrość, pożądanie i pragnienie
zaszczytów wypędzają człowieka nawet z tego świata. Służba jest zaszczytem w świecie Boga. Owszem, nie
czujemy wyniesienia, gdy się uniżamy, służąc Bogu i ludziom, bo na tym świecie nie ma nagrody, która byłaby
odpowiednia i w pełni gratyfikująca nasze poświęcenie. Świat jest zbyt mały, by zmieścił taką nagrodę, więc
jej tutaj nie doznajemy! Służba Jezusa sięgnęła szczytu, kiedy dźwigał krzyż. Wtedy wziął za nas bagaż
naszych grzechów na swoje plecy, wykpiwany przez tych, których sumienia uwalniał od winy.
Jezus też ma plecy. W naszym świecie ma się plecy tylko dla znajomych, w świecie Boga Jezus służył swoimi
plecami nawet wrogom! Zapewnił im najlepsze stanowiska w niebie! Kim bowiem był Szaweł, kiedy
prześladował chrześcijan? Kim stał się dzięki biczowanym plecom Jezusa? Szczytem służby jest dać swoje
życie na okup za innych, i to umrzeć za tych, którzy nas zabijają. Taką służbę możesz znaleźć w swoim
małżeństwie, gdy zabijają cię słowa współmałżonka, a ty słowami modlitwy prosisz o jego zbawienie. Taką
służbę możesz znaleźć, gdy znosisz kogoś przykrego, zanosząc swoją ofiarę do Boga właśnie po to, by zanieść
na plecach modlitwy tę osobę do raju. Podobnie jak doznawanie dobra może uczynić nas złymi, tak znoszenie
zła czyni nas niekiedy dobrymi. Najpiękniejszą służbą jest taka, która nie zobowiązuje do wdzięczności osoby,
której czyni się dobro, czyli taka, w której lewica nie wie, co czyni prawica. Kiedy kogoś informujemy, że za
niego bardzo się modlimy, pozbawiamy się nagrody u Boga i zniewalamy kogoś wdzięcznością.
Nie dziwię się, że Jezus wspomina w tym kontekście o kielichu. To wskazuje na związek z tajemnicą
Eucharystii. Na każdej Mszy modlę się do Jezusa, aby moje ciało ukrył w swojej Hostii. Modlę się też za tych,
których imiona wypisał na moim ciele. To taka moja prywatna modlitwa w duchu. Kiedyś na Mszy zdałem
sobie sprawę, że tymi, których imiona noszę na swoim ciele, są jedynie ci, którzy mnie jakoś zranili. Odczułem
ulgę, wręcz szczęście. Oni nawet nie wiedzą, że się za nich modlę, i to bardziej niż za tych, których kocham.
Moje blizny serca to imiona tych, którzy zadali mi rany. Nic tak bardzo jak Eucharystia nie daje szansy, by
kochać nieprzyjaciół piękniejszą miłością niż przyjaciół. To jest właśnie służba bliźnim, czyli tym, którzy
bliźnimi stali się przez blizny.
