Off-duty officer assaulted at picnic – April 3, 2011 – South
Carolina – By Lorena Anderson; www.TheSunNews.com -
Myrtle Beach Police Officer Michael Marsh said he was assaulted
by a Hells Angels MC member Sat afternoon while he was
attending a picnic & cookout at a friend’s house in the
Forestbrook area of Horry County. One man was arrested &
charged with simple assault. Horry County Police Lt. Kevin
Duke said reports indicate the child of the homeowner on Deer
Trace Circle where Marsh was spending the afternoon had gotten
into an argument at school with the child of the next-door
neighbor. One of the next-door neighbors is a member of the
Hells Angels, Duke said, & gathered a group of Hells Angels to
come over. Duke said police reports show that a woman was
assaulted & when Marsh stepped in, he was assaulted, too. The
woman, who lives at the home on Deer Trace Circle, did not press
charges, Duke said. But Marsh did. Joshua Joseph Johnson, 41,
of Little River, was stopped in a car a little while after the fight &
was arrested on suspicion of simple assault. He was released
from J. Reuben Long Detention Center this afternoon about 4:30
p.m. after a bond hearing, but officials at the jail did not have the
bond amount. Duke said a group of Hells Angels showed up
flying their club colors at the bond hearing, but there were no
problems. Duke said Marsh was not seriously injured.
Hells Angels pay $6m for members – April 3, 2011 – Australia
– By Les Kennedy; www.SMH.com.au - A Mass defection of
Bandidos bikie members to the Hells Angels in Sydney came with
a price tag of $6 million in an extraordinary peacekeeping deal
struck between the 2 former rival gangs. The payout to secure the
defections, aimed at bolstering Hells Angels ranks in NSW,
included the formal signing of a contract, The Sun-Herald can
reveal. NSW Gang Squad police have learned that the
recruitment of 60 Bandidos members from 3 of its Sydney
chapters in February, including the entire Bandidos Parramatta
branch, cost the Hells Angels $6 million. That would translate to
$100,000 for every Bandido adopting the flying skull logo of the
Hells Angels. It is unclear if the money went into the coffers of
the remaining Bandidos branches or has been paid to each
defector. The recruitment drive is aimed at boosting the Hells
Angels’ ranks before the High Court decides if NSW Police
moves to outlaw the club under anti-gang legislation are lawful.
Bolstering Hells Angels numbers to form new chapters in Kings
Cross, Haymarket & Parramatta is also believed to counter the
Comanchero & Nomad gangs, who have taken in members of the
now defunct Kings Cross gang Notorious. It is understood the
recruitment deal was organised by Felix Lyle, a former Bandido
who is a rising force in the Hells Angels. Offers were also made
to members of other clubs. Switching clubs is considered a
serious transgression & often leads to violence; hence the payout.
The Hells Angels & Comancheros have been feuding since the
Comancheros firebombed a Hells Angels tattoo parlour in 2008.
The fatal airport brawl of March 2009 & subsequent revenge
shooting of Hells Angels member Peter Zervas were allegedly
results of the firebombing. But with the increase in Hells Angels
ranks to more than 100 members in NSW has come the retirement
of at least 6 long-serving members last week, including Peter
Zervas, whose brother Anthony was allegedly bashed to death in
the airport brawl. Another retiree was Anthony Wainohu, an
original member of the Hells Angels’ first Sydney chapter,
formed in Guildford in 1975. Since its inception in the United
States in 1940, the Hells Angels - which now boasts 230 chapters
in 27 countries - has adopted a corporate approach to its business
dealings despite a ruthless reputation. The gang carefully guards
its name & skull logo, which are trademarked. In 2006 the
Californian chapter of the gang sued Walt Disney for trademark
infringement, complaining its logo was used in the film Wild
Hogs. In 2009 the former owner of clothing maker Mambo was
forced to apologise to the Hells Angels in Australia for 2
trademark breaches involving children’s clothing emblazoned
with ‘‘Heavens Angels’’ & a skull with wings.
Bikie gang leader Focarelli under threat in prison – April 3,
2011 – Australia - By Nigel Hunt; www.AdelaideNow.com.au -
Bikie leader Vince Focarelli has been placed in protective custody
after safety threats from other prisoners. Now leader of the
fledgling South Australian chapter of the Comancheros, Focarelli,
who was arrested for breaching parole conditions, is now being
held in the Adelaide Remand Centre following a risk assessment
of his “situation”, which identified possible threats to his safety.
Senior Correctional Services managers deemed the risk of
housing Focarelli in Yatala Labour Prison too great because of the
number of rival Hells Angels associates held there. Focarelli has
survived 2 attempts on his life over the past year as the longrunning
dispute between the Hells Angels & the New Boys street
gang simmered. More than a dozen New Boys members,
including Focarelli, have joined the Comancheros bikie gang -
also bitter rivals of the Hells Angels. While declining to comment
on individual prisoner movements, Correctional Services chief
executive Peter Severin said prisoners such as Focarelli were
initially placed in an area where “we have a very high level of
control” pending the risk assessment. “Once that is completed he
would be moved into a normal mainstream unit, but making sure
there are no prisoners identified as potentially not compatible with
him,” he said.
