While enjoying your summer holidays, stop over Geneva and

An Outstanding Setting
Geneva’s idyllic setting on the shores of Lake Geneva, nestled between two rivers and
the Jura and the Alps, makes for one of Europe’s most attractive lakeside cities. The
lakefront is breathtaking with its many parks and stunning views of the iconic Jet d’Eau or
Water Fountain. For a bird’s eye view, climb to the top of the South Tower at St Peter’s
Cathedral, in the heart of the Old Town. Another highlight is the Bains des Pâquis, the
city’s very own downtown beach where the whole of Geneva comes to relax and swim
in the middle of the lake. In the summer, many of the city’s activities are based around
the water. A beautiful cruise on the lake with Mont Blanc for backdrop is a popular
choice, as is a sail down the Rhône with its verdant banks. For the more adventurous, water
rafting down the Arve river is always fun. The city also boasts over 50 parks and gardens
and the surrounding countryside is never far away, with its charming villages, acres of
vineyards and untouched woodland.
Imagine the shopper’s paradise. Cradle of the Swiss watchmaking industry,
Geneva is a paradise for luxury shopping. Famous for its stores selling extremely
accurate watches and clocks, jewellery and luxury goods, Geneva also has a vast range of
fashionable boutiques. The ultimate shopping paradise is all within a compact area,
meaning you can get more shopping done in an hour walking around Geneva than you
would in a day anywhere else!
Night life
Geneva a surprising nightlife scene and offers a surprising range of evening
entertainment. Numerous shows can be enjoyed throughout the year: plays, concerts,
performances and plenty of other events. On top of this, in Geneva there are also plenty of
cool bars, live music venues, wine bars, pubs and fashionable nightclubs. For full

2012 ‐ Rousseau’s 300 anniversary ‐ « Rousseau pour tous »
Jean‐Jacques Rousseau, the Enlightenment’s philosopher, was born in Geneva on 28 June
1712 and spent the first sixteen years his life here. “2012 Rousseau pour tous” is a
celebration of the300th anniversary of the birth of the philosopher and writer which also
underlines the importance of his Genevan background in his life and work.

From August 2 to 12, 2012 the Geneva Festival. From July 19 to August 2, 2012The
Pre-festival. Come and have fun at the famous Geneva Festival from 2 August to 12
August! During these three weeks, the entire lakeside comes alive with the rhythm of
music, the fun fair and many shows and entertainments. There are also food and craft
stands from around the world. Magnificent firework display on 11 August. The Geneva

From June 15 to 17, 2012, don’t miss the famous “Bol d’Or Mirabaud (Geneva Lake),
the Europe’s biggest lake sailing race. Since 1939 the Bol d'Or Mirabaud Regatta attracts
thousands of visitors and 100s of sailors. You can witness the spectacular start of the race
from Geneva city and the race from many places along the shore of the lake which runs

Summer Music Festival. Organised each year in July and August, this festival offers a
wide choice of concerts throughout Geneva, from classical to contemporary music,
