20% of semester grade<br />
This grade is calculated from the final research<br />
paper. <strong>Research</strong> process components are not<br />
included in this calculation but will be included<br />
in other grading categories.<br />
Requirements:<br />
3 page minimum, 5 page maximum<br />
Documented Sentence Outline (teacher<br />
discretion)<br />
Source Cards and Note Cards are<br />
recommended; however, at the teacher’s<br />
discretion alternative methods of research<br />
documentation, such as article photocopies,<br />
may be used.<br />
The required Works Cited page is not included<br />
in length requirements.<br />
Topic:<br />
<strong>Research</strong> paper must be related to American<br />
literature, preferably a documented literary<br />
analysis of a short story or longer poem.<br />
20% of semester grade<br />
This grade is calculated to include the<br />
component parts of the activity along with the<br />
final product.<br />
Requirements:<br />
Final product at the teacher’s discretion, but it<br />
must include student-generated research,<br />
documentation, an oral presentation, and a<br />
written product.<br />
Must have at least 5 sources<br />
Source Cards and Note Cards are<br />
recommended; however, at the teacher’s<br />
discretion alternative methods of research<br />
documentation, such as article photocopies,<br />
may be used.<br />
Works Cited must follow MLA guidelines.<br />
Topic:<br />
The research activity may be related to<br />
contemporary issues, career or college<br />
planning, or literary topics.<br />
All Source and Note Cards must be completed following guidelines in the <strong>Research</strong> <strong>Survival</strong><br />
<strong>Guide</strong>.<br />
Wikipedia and other user-edited information sites are not allowed as sources for information in<br />
any research assignment in <strong>Fayette</strong> <strong>County</strong> <strong>Schools</strong>.<br />
High school research papers should not be reports, but persuasive literary analysis or essays.<br />
Products should be produced by a single-student, not a group, except where noted.<br />
All research will be reviewed for plagiarism.<br />
This may include the use of online plagiarism services and programs.<br />
