Parts of a Note Card<br />

Slug:<br />

A word or phrase written on the left side<br />

of a Note Card indicating a subtopic for<br />

the information used on the card. Use<br />

slugs to organize the Note Cards before<br />

you begin writing. The slug often<br />

corresponds with a subtopic in the<br />

outline.<br />

Parenthetical Documentation:<br />

The information specified by MLA to indicate<br />

the source on the Works Cited page, usually<br />

but not always the author’s last name and<br />

page number.<br />

the form of a direct quotation,<br />

paraphrase, or summary.<br />

upper right-hand corner of the card and<br />

circled. Assign a different number to each<br />

number will not appear in your paper.<br />

Summary<br />

Note Type:<br />

Indicates if the note is a direct<br />

quotation, paraphrase, or summary.
