inaccuracies plus the design had to meet Health Board standards. The draft
booklet and poster was circulated and Nicky advised that the design had been
tested for accessibility. Kathleen asked that the ‘orange print’ panel be changed
but overall members were happy with design. Abdul Ben Jellioun asked if the
booklet would be available in different languages. CHCP would look at the
costings for alternative formats and languages.
Ray informed the meeting that he, Michelle Sutherland and Shona MacInnes
3. Mental Health Services: progress and developments
David McCrae spoke about Mental Health Service in West Glasgow. He
highlighted 5 services.
• The Primary Care Mental Health Team consists of 6 people based at
Yarrow View and deals with common mental health issues – anxiety, low
mood, difficult life experiences etc. The team has reduced the waiting time
for a service from 22 weeks to 4 week in the last six months. The team will
now focus on the outcomes of the service and who is accessing it in order
to target groups who are not a present using the service such as people
minority ethnic groups.
• The Psychotherapy Services is based at Lansdowne Clinic and deals with
more long term mental health issues.
• Community Mental Health Team consists of 2 teams (Riverside and
Arndale Centre) and provide a service for approximately 2,000 service
users who have complex and severe mental health problems.
• The Crisis Team provide intensive home treatment. They support patients
that are being discharged from hospital reducing time spent in a hospital
setting, prevent admission where possible and equally important ensure
that patients who require immediate treatment are admitted to hospital
without lengthy assessments and bureaucracy.
• Inpatient Service at Gartnavel Royal Hospital was also described. David
mentioned that new hospital was opened in November’07 with 120 beds –
all single with ensuite facilities, the range of communal area, visitor areas
etc and the move from a ‘observation’ model to a ‘intervention’ model.
David finished off by describing the Esteem Services – an early intervention
team who provide services to 16 – 35 year old who experience psychosis for the
first time and the Eating Disorder Team which provides a specialist city wide
service. Eileen spoke about the Adult Support Action plan which is the
development of information – web sites, web links, handy cards, etc that
individuals, agencies, families voluntary and communities can access.
In response to Evelyn’s question David described the out of hours services and
that agencies such as the police, NHS 24 and GEMS should all be aware who
and how to contact and access services. Evelyn felt the out of hours service
was not well publicised in the community and that carers found it difficult to
access services out of hours. David advised Abdul that the Children and
Adolescence provide services to children and young people.
Following a discussion on the low up take of service users drawing up a personal
statement or an advanced statement Eileen agreed it might be useful to revisit
this area. Thelma raised concerns about the growing number of people under
65 years affected by dementia and the lack of appropriate services and financial
difficulties they face. David advised Thelma that the adult mental health team
had responsibility carrying out assessments for people with early onset dementia
but the care services were provided by Health and Community Care.
4. Youth Work Follow Up
May expanded on the report and welcomed comment from members. After
discussion the group agreed that it is essential to concentrate more on needs of
and to engage with children and young people with disabilities and their families.
Evelyn mentioned event that was being organised for children and young people
affected by disability. May to follow up to see if it would useful way for PPF to
engage with young people affected by disability.
5. Feedback Reports from representatives
a) Voluntary Sector Network
This item was deferred as Frances was not able to attend the meeting.
b) Renal Services
Alan advised meeting that after a number of meetings with Mark MacAlister
(Engagement Team) regular renal service users were now going to be
interviewed and involved in proposed changes to the present dialysis facility.
c). CHCP Committee: 21 st of October 2008
Thelma highlighted from the report that Pam Fenton (Head of Health and
Community Care was going back to the City Council to ask that the
recommendations of the Elderly Day Service Best Value Review be implement in
full. Evelyn advised 2 service users, supported by People First and 2 carers
The main issues raised at this event were ‘access to’ and ‘communication’ with
regards to GP’s. Ray informed the group that new GP Forum was being
developed and would like a fuller discussion at the next meeting.
his name forward to find out more about the remit and commitment of
volunteering for this group and what support would be available.
c) Tobacco Control Strategic Group is also looking for volunteers from PPF to
attend this group and the 3 sub group. May asked members to raise this with
their members.
