Revisions and Methodology Changes
Infostream January/February 2007
The following section briefly describes revisions that have taken place in the last two months. In some instances, revisions are substantive
enough to render past history incompatible with the new, in other cases not. As much as possible, Economics team analysts take guidance
from the sources on whether to splice the revised with existing data, or to carry both a before and an after set of series. Please refer to
the Content Updates sited and hypelinked below for further information and mnemonics for affected series.
Macroeconomics Methodology Changes
Australian Industrial Production Indices (1803)
The Australian Bureau of Statistics has implemented changes in the reference period of its Industrial Production Indices from 2003-
04=100 to 2004-05=100. New historical data starts from Q3 1974 for the key series and Q3 1977 for the components.
Belgian Quarterly National Account Aggregates (1747)
The Belgian National Statistics Office has changed its methodology and adopted the chained-volume 2004 basis in the computation of its
real quarterly and annual National Accounts Aggregates. Existing mnemonics were reused for the chained-volume data, while the fixedbase
data was preserved under a new set of mnemonics.
Cypriot Annual National Accounts (1808)
The Statistical Service of the Republic of Cyprus has changed the reporting of annual National Accounts from 1995 to 2000 chain-linked
prices. Figures for the series measured in current price terms were also revised, as a result mainly of the re-allocation of FISIM (Financial
Intermediation Services Indirectly Measured), which was previously presented as a separate series. Changes made were in accordance
with Eurostat and EU regulations. Historical data is generally available from 1995.
Greek National Accounts by Expenditure (1789)
The General Secretariat National Statistics Service of Greece (NSSG) has changed the price basis of its National Accounts by Expenditure
constant volume series from 1995 to 2000. Current price series were also revised based on new information from additional statistical
surveys, as well as the standard compilation system of the European Commission. Data starts from Q1 2003 on the new basis.
Icelandic Producer Price Indices (1786)
Statistics Iceland has rebased its Producer Price Indices from Q4 2003=100 to Q4 2005=100. The source has recalculated the entire
historical data of all time series concerned. In addition, new component indices were created, with historical data starting from Q4 2003.
New Zealand Consumer Price Indices (1716)
Statistics New Zealand has changed the base period in the computation of Consumer Price Index series from June 1999=1000 to June
2006=1000. Similarly, the new Household Expenditure Classification (NZHEC) was adopted in choosing the basket of goods and services,
in accordance with the ILO’s international best practice guidelines. Available historical data starts from 1950 for the key series and June
1999 for the components. In addition to the methodology change, 44 new component indices were added.
Norwegian National Accounts (1820)
and implemented the use of the new Singapore Standard Industrial Classification 2005. Data in the new base year starts from August
2004. Additionally, the catering trade categories have been expanded into four groups with the inclusion of Food Caterers.
