Installation instructions for concertina ladders and loft ladders<br />

Please read this instructions carefully before installing the stair and follow the instructions below.<br />

• Any modification of the product or unproper use contrary to the description of the installation<br />

instruction will cancel the manufacturer`s warranty.<br />

• The loft stair must be horizontally stored in a dry surrounding.<br />

• This loft stair is only suitable for domestic use in a dry surrounding.<br />

• The loft stairs must not be installed outside.<br />

• The loft stairs should only be used once the cover is completely open, the spring arms are in their end<br />

position and the loft stairs is safely resting on the floor.<br />

• To increase the life of the loft stair, protect the untreated wood parts with a surface treatment.<br />

• Original parts must be used for repairs.<br />

Fastening parts are not included in the delivery; please order these parts by a specialist retailer.<br />

1. Stairways with wooden hatch box<br />

1.1 For fixing the hatch box (1) in the opening (from above) use leashes (3) (ca. 30 x 30 mm) and fix the<br />

leashes with screws for plywood (5) (min. Ø 4,5 x 70).<br />

1.2 Place wooden wedges (4) under the leashes until the hatch box has reached a horizontal position and is<br />

equivalent with the underside of the ceiling. (Please see details in the drawing)<br />

1.3 Place hatch box (1) central into opening. Ensure it is rectangular (ensure a correct balance in the<br />

opening). Make sure there is wood between the hatch box and the opening at the places where the<br />

screws are planned (7).<br />

1.4 Install the hatch box (1) with screws (6) (min. Ø6 x 70 mm) in required quantity (min. 6x) save in the<br />

ceiling.<br />

1.5 Please fill the gap between the hatch box and the opening with insulation material, and close the bottom<br />

side consistent against damp.<br />

1.6 Please fix cover strips with wire nails (Ø 1,8 x 35 mm) or fix the panels at the underside of the hatch box.<br />

2. Stairways with steel casing<br />

<strong>COLUMBUS</strong> <strong>Treppen</strong> <strong>GmbH</strong><br />

2.1 Please check these measures.<br />

a) Length and width of the opening<br />

b) Depth of ceiling<br />

c) Length and width of the steel casing<br />

d) Height of the steel casing<br />

2.2 Put the steel casing (2) into the correct position –<br />

below of the opening; install part 16, 17, 18, 19 like<br />

drawing. Fit screws M16 x 160 (18) on all four<br />

corners (underside of nut equivalent) and fit it in given<br />

pipes. Caution: please turn screw (18) not too deep,<br />

under holder (16) must swing over the fringe of steel<br />

hatch box and floor after the hatch has been lifted.<br />

2.3 Fix strong cable on all four corners on the holders<br />

(16) with hooks (19), like DIN 82101 (not included in<br />

delivery) and pull the hatch box in the opening.<br />

Caution: lift up the hatch box with care.<br />

regulation“<br />

For safety put on fitting pillars on Z-frame of hatch to<br />

prevent the hatch box from falling down. Make sure<br />

the trapdoor can be opened for adjustments.<br />

2.4 Swing holders (16) on all four corners outside, until<br />

they rest on the floor. If necessary, use a pad. Place the steel hatch box with screws and a spirit - level.<br />

Caution: do not turn screws (18) outside from the nut „danger, hatch box can fall down“. Take care that<br />

hatch is placed central and rectangular into opening. Please check function from stairway by opening of<br />

trapdoor (Trapdoor must not cant!).<br />

2.5 Install steel casing with screws (min. ø6 x 70 mm) in required quantity (min. 8x) save on the ceiling.<br />

2.6 After completed installation please fill the gap between hatch box and opening with plaster, to ensure „fire<br />

resistance “.<br />

2.7 Remove parts 16,17,18,19 after installation of the hatch. The square pipes in the corners are for fixing the<br />

guard rail.<br />

3. Help for installation<br />

4. Adjustment from treads, stop screw and adjustment of middle support<br />

A. Open stair (1) and put it on the floor<br />

B. Open counter nut (8) on both sides<br />

C. Turn screw for adjustment (7) till operating arms (4) lie flat<br />

D. Tighten counter nuts (8) on both sides.<br />

Adjustment of middle support by type standard<br />

No standard equipment – only for ladders for 13 tread over 3,30 m (floor to ceiling) height<br />

A) Open the trapdoor completely and extract concertina up to the stop-bolt (8), if possible resting on the floor.<br />

If it is not possible let the stairs hover above the floor – don´t strain.<br />

B) Loose the nuts (7) on both sides while there is no weight on the stairs. Move bracket (5) on C-shaped clamp (6)<br />

until the concertina hit the ground and the stop-bolt (8) hits a Stop at the middle support (4).<br />

C) Tighten nuts (7) . Concertina can be used now.<br />
