Installation instructions for concertina ladders and loft ladders 

Please read this instructions carefully before installing the stair and follow the instructions below. 

• Any modification of the product or unproper use contrary to the description of the installation 

instruction will cancel the manufacturer`s warranty. 

• The loft stair must be horizontally stored in a dry surrounding. 

• This loft stair is only suitable for domestic use in a dry surrounding. 

• The loft stairs must not be installed outside. 

• The loft stairs should only be used once the cover is completely open, the spring arms are in their end 

position and the loft stairs is safely resting on the floor. 

• To increase the life of the loft stair, protect the untreated wood parts with a surface treatment. 

• Original parts must be used for repairs. 

Fastening parts are not included in the delivery; please order these parts by a specialist retailer. 

1. Stairways with wooden hatch box 

1.1 For fixing the hatch box (1) in the opening (from above) use leashes (3) (ca. 30 x 30 mm) and fix the 

leashes with screws for plywood (5) (min. Ø 4,5 x 70). 

1.2 Place wooden wedges (4) under the leashes until the hatch box has reached a horizontal position and is 

equivalent with the underside of the ceiling. (Please see details in the drawing) 

1.3 Place hatch box (1) central into opening. Ensure it is rectangular (ensure a correct balance in the 

opening). Make sure there is wood between the hatch box and the opening at the places where the 

screws are planned (7). 

1.4 Install the hatch box (1) with screws (6) (min. Ø6 x 70 mm) in required quantity (min. 6x) save in the 

ceiling. 

1.5 Please fill the gap between the hatch box and the opening with insulation material, and close the bottom 

side consistent against damp. 

1.6 Please fix cover strips with wire nails (Ø 1,8 x 35 mm) or fix the panels at the underside of the hatch box.

2. Stairways with steel casing 


2.1 Please check these measures. 

a) Length and width of the opening 

b) Depth of ceiling 

c) Length and width of the steel casing 

d) Height of the steel casing 

2.2 Put the steel casing (2) into the correct position – 

below of the opening; install part 16, 17, 18, 19 like 

drawing. Fit screws M16 x 160 (18) on all four 

corners (underside of nut equivalent) and fit it in given 

pipes. Caution: please turn screw (18) not too deep, 

under holder (16) must swing over the fringe of steel 

hatch box and floor after the hatch has been lifted. 

2.3 Fix strong cable on all four corners on the holders 

(16) with hooks (19), like DIN 82101 (not included in 

delivery) and pull the hatch box in the opening. 

Caution: lift up the hatch box with care. 

„Please follow the accident prevention 

regulation“ 

For safety put on fitting pillars on Z-frame of hatch to 

prevent the hatch box from falling down. Make sure 

the trapdoor can be opened for adjustments. 

2.4 Swing holders (16) on all four corners outside, until 

they rest on the floor. If necessary, use a pad. Place the steel hatch box with screws and a spirit - level. 

Caution: do not turn screws (18) outside from the nut „danger, hatch box can fall down“. Take care that 

hatch is placed central and rectangular into opening. Please check function from stairway by opening of 

trapdoor (Trapdoor must not cant!). 

2.5 Install steel casing with screws (min. ø6 x 70 mm) in required quantity (min. 8x) save on the ceiling. 

2.6 After completed installation please fill the gap between hatch box and opening with plaster, to ensure „fire 

resistance “. 

2.7 Remove parts 16,17,18,19 after installation of the hatch. The square pipes in the corners are for fixing the 

guard rail. 

3. Help for installation 

1. Wooden hatch box (fit it from above)

3. Leashes (ca. 30x30 mm) 

4. Special part for exact adjustment 

5. Screw for plywood ø4,5x70 (ø2,5 mm 

drill hole)

4. Adjustment from treads, stop screw and adjustment of middle support 

A. Open stair (1) and put it on the floor 

B. Open counter nut (8) on both sides 

C. Turn screw for adjustment (7) till operating arms (4) lie flat 

D. Tighten counter nuts (8) on both sides.

Adjustment from treads

A. Open stair (1) and put it on the floor 

B. Open nuts (2) at the inner side of tread till you can turn all 

treads (Please do not use the stairway) 

. C. Bring treads in horizontal position and tighten the nuts

Adjustment of middle support by type standard 

No standard equipment – only for ladders for 13 tread over 3,30 m (floor to ceiling) height 

A) Open the trapdoor completely and extract concertina up to the stop-bolt (8), if possible resting on the floor. 

If it is not possible let the stairs hover above the floor – don´t strain. 

B) Loose the nuts (7) on both sides while there is no weight on the stairs. Move bracket (5) on C-shaped clamp (6) 

until the concertina hit the ground and the stop-bolt (8) hits a Stop at the middle support (4). 

C) Tighten nuts (7) . Concertina can be used now.
