specify which sites.
Mrs Joyce Saunders TCAAP/ALL_15 Yes The closed down bus station would make a good site for a village community hall. Dr Barnardos Babies
Castle in Cranbrook Road could be saved because of its great historical value and made with flats or some
kind of housing. All Saints Church needs to be renovated and used for flats so young people who have
been brought up in the village and marry can stay close to home.
Mrs Valerie Manser TCAAP/ALL_16 Yes The site of the Hawkhurst Bus Station and All Saints Church - unused for many years.
Mrs S D Gould TCAAP/ALL_17 Yes Hawkhurst Bus Station.
parking places but no road in front of their properties.
Highgate Hill chapel
Mrs Wendy Coxeter TCAAP/ALL_103 Yes Bus station, Budgens church site, Former nursery site on Cranbrook Road and the quarry opposite.
Mr Mark Coxeter TCAAP/ALL_104 Yes The following sites are obvious contenders for redevelopment:
Mr Andrew Hill TCAAP/ALL_106 Yes All Saints Church at Highgate - for housing
The old Arriva Bus Station site.
The old Church next to Budgens car park is a natural site for a Village Hall/Community Centre.
The old Babies Castle site.
Arriva bus station - should be allocated for housing, not retail development
Mr John Hunt TCAAP/ALL_109 Yes Arriva site has potential for a number of appropriate uses and that does not include another "community
store". Limited housing to facilitate other community uses, Day Centre, Doctors Practise, Community Centre
Mrs Jacqueline Faircloth TCAAP/ALL_114 Yes The vacant Bus Station is a site for a village hall, now that Hawkhurst has lost its existing village
hall(Victoria Hall) to a cinema.
Miss Helen Mary Fletcher TCAAP/ALL_115 Yes 1. The All Saints Church has been derelict & vandalised for over 16 years. Owners/Developers do not
seem to get started on their plans.
2. The Hawkhurst Castle liek above is being waiting for development & refurbishment.
3. The Arriva Depot is overgrown & looks like a post nuclear site
4. Lillesden
Mrs Ellen Hannavy-Cousen TCAAP/ALL_117 Yes the church next to jempsons sup[ermarket - ideal for a community centre and theatre etc. Babies castle on
the cranbrook road - what a waste! Closed for years now and all those poor people put out of their homes -
for what ? a derelict building! Turn it into a school/college a place of learning and development. The old bus
garage - stupidly lost its status - so no bus station - could be returned to a bus station or a court house/
police station.
Mr Andrew Stevens TCAAP/ALL_123 Yes All Saints Church, the Arriva Bus Station site, Lillesden School site, Babies Castle site
Mr Stephen Crowley TCAAP/ALL_129 Yes St. Lawrences Church is a real eye sore, as is the bus station. Any use is better than nothing.
Radical solution - the church has been redundant for ages. Knock it down and put houses there, or a mix of
houses / parking / shops and perhaps that might allow road junction improvements.
Pickett TCAAP/ALL_135 Yes Babies' Castle; the old garden centre site; former railway station site; petrol station and post office on A 229
Cranbrook Road; empty land on northern side of A268, to the east of Marlborough House school, adjacent
to recently built dwelling; All Saints' Church; former bus station site; former Lillesden School site
Mrs Sarah Vernede TCAAP/ALL_137 Yes Babies Castle, the redundant All Saints Church and the bus station.
Mr & Mrs A P Towell TCAAP/ALL_160 Yes Church for Community Centre. Bus Station for parking or Care Housing. Castle for parking.
Mr Anson Paul TCAAP/ALL_167 Yes Yes, the old bus-station is perfect, as is a part of the Fowlers car park. The church should also finally be
utilised.
Mrs Susan Boerlage TCAAP/ALL_170 No It is already over developed
Miss Emily Thompson TCAAP/ALL_175 Yes the empty residential care home on cranbrook road (hawkhurst castle)
Mrs Lynn Mansell TCAAP/ALL_179 Yes Old Bus Station.
Mr Michael Armitage TCAAP/ALL_213 Yes Lillesden and Babies Castle.
Mr Alex Mackay TCAAP/ALL_214 Bus station, Church, Shop on SW corner of Highgate crossroads. All these sites are highly important to
Mr James Munro-Faure TCAAP/ALL_215 Yes Bus Station for residential, Highgate Church for community uses to save on the proposed Moor
Mrs Sara Middleton TCAAP/ALL_275 The church next to Budgens.
It has been empty for years.
Ms Penelope Goodare TCAAP/ALL_337 Yes There are two large, derelict buildings - the so-called 'baby castle' (formerly Barnardo's Home) on
Cranbrook Road, and the school on the Hastings Road - which would be beautiful if refurbished, but
presumably this is unlikely to happen because of the cost. I assume they have been left empty either
through lack of money or because they are listed - if the latter, they will no longer be listed if they deteriorate
enough, so they are possibly being deliberately left until that happens. Sad though it would be to knock
them down, it would be better than building on green land.
Miss Joanne Haywood TCAAP/ALL_356 Some shop/retail spaces are empty.
Mrs Anne Loach TCAAP/ALL_377 All Saints Church, Aviva Bus Garage and Babies Castle
K R Weatherly TCAAP/ALL_727 Yes Taking into account the chaotic bus parking and waiting zones in the village I would suggest the existing
Mr Paul Towell TCAAP/ALL_1041 Yes Abandoned church for Community Centre and parking
Bus Station for parking
Castle for Parking
Miss Katie Brinsley TCAAP/ALL_1046 Yes The Arriva bus station would make a grate housing development, especially for senior residents that have
no access to there own transport, as it is in easy walking distance to the centre of the village, and the fact
that it would be an expensive sight because of contamination and Arriva are asking a high price of the land
are not good reasons to not use it for housing. I don't think this site is appropriate for retail as it is out side
the centre boundary.
Mr Wez Tallett TCAAP/ALL_1048 Yes Hawkhurst castle, Bus station, Lisden House, Behind the vets on A229 and the Church by Budgens.
Mr Peter Crocker TCAAP/ALL_1050 The Church near Budgens and Hawkhurst Castle on the way to Cranbrook, could both be re-developed
Mrs Jill Mackay TCAAP/ALL_1100 Yes Redundant church and bus station plus Babies Castle all desperately need active use.
Mr Richard Briden TCAAP/ALL_1113 Yes All Saints church, Buss Murton site, Arriva bus garage and the Castle site. Springfield business park could
be better utilised and potentially extended to include ‘spare' ground along the golf course boundary. The
vacant ‘corner' shop premises needs to be occupied quickly and by something that is likely to be of use to
the majority of the residents to encourage more usage of the centre shops and facilities.
Ms Diana H Jones TCAAP/ALL_1191 Yes The green field below Hill House on Moor Hill is, I understand, already owned by the Council. The right of
way could be kept and I seem to remember sewage work being carried out at the bottom.
"Babies Castle" on the corner of Heartenoak Rd is an eyesore and has a bus stop outside but it would
2. All Saints Church
I would question Barratt, the landowner selling site 64, and their representatives, why we need lots of new
houses, when we have already HAD lots and lots of houses built in Hawhurst. See Q16. If there is such a
need for affordable housing you have failed so far to address the problem by building, SO STOP! In light of
a change in government policy and good common sense this proposal by T.W.B.C. for many more houses
should have been consigned to the rubbish bin. Why TWBC persist in this policy is highly questionable.
Why are you wasting large amounts of public money pursuing outdated and socially dubious policies?
Miss Thomasina Stanford TCAAP/ALLe_3 Yes It is an absolute travesty that the Babies Castle or (Hawkhurst Castle) and Lillsden Girls School has been

Mr Jonathan Martin TCAAP/ALLe_6 Yes
The Babies castle has such a fascinating history and is I believe an integral part of what Hawkhurst once
was, to loose this piece of history through sheer neglect is terrible.
TCAAP/ALLe_26 Yes In addition to those identified in the consultation document, as a start I would think it worth investigating:
Lillesden School, Hawkhurst Castle, the Methodist Church (also a small amount of land behind it and the
field to the north of it), Woodham Hall, the land between Red Oak and Hensill Lane, some land off Horns
Road (both north and south), Station Garage, Wealden Ad site. All these are not recommendations as such,
because of course they are subject to public consultation and agreement/negotiation with the owners.
The Clerk to Hawkhurst Parish Council has stated that his advice from the Planning Manager at TWBC is
that HPC and councillors should not mention possible sites because of the risk of losing the Council's ability
in the future to deal with planning applications on these sites. Given that Parish Councillors have local
knowledge this advice seems to me misguided.
sites within Hawkhurst that could be used before destroying precious countryside.
Sites such as Hawkhurst Castle, Lillesden Girls School, the disused Church and the old Bus Station could
be put to good use. Housing on the Bus station site would be a far better solution than another supermarket.
Hawkhurst already has a well equipped supermarket with plans to expand on its existing site. We can only
assume this is ‘bully boy' tactics of a national supermarket chain trying to push out a local trader.
Hawkhurst does not need another supermarket.
Ms Jane Mitchell TCAAP/ALLe_33 ARRIVA BUS DEPOT IN PARTICULAR. SURELY THIS SHOULD BE CONSIDERED ALONG WITH
OTHER BROWN FIELD SITES BEFORE EVEN CONSIDERING GREEN FIELD SITES!
Mr M Baker TCAAP/ALLe_34 Yes BUS GARAGE, ALL SAINTS CHURCH,BABIES CASTLE,LILLESDEN,SPRINGFIELD
Mrs Beverly Gill TCAAP/ALLe_36 Yes Babies Castle, Lillesden School, Highgate Church, Bus Depot. All beautiful buildings beeing left to rot!
Mrs C Baker TCAAP/ALLe_37 Yes There are several derelict and brown field sites within Hawkhurst. Also Bus garage, Babies' Castel,
Mr Alec Travers TCAAP/ALLe_38 Yes Babie Castle.
All Saints Church.
Arriva Bus Depot.
Gills Green Industrial area.
The first two of these have had schemes submitted for residential use, and have been rejected at Council
level. Instead of this negative attitude, the development of these eyesores should be encouraged. All Saints
Church is in the hands of a developer who has apparently done little to develop it. Action should be taken to
force the pace of this derelict site being brought into use. The Arriva bus depot is being mooted as a
supermarket: a second supermarket almost opposite the first, on the same side of the traffic-lights and
providing the same range of goods is something we do not need. This should be used either as a
Community centre or affordable housing. Gills Green seems to have had little take-up for commercial
development and some of it at least should be developed for affordable housing.
Mr Grant Duncan TCAAP/ALLe_39 Yes Prior to consideration of site 64 or any other greenfield sites, the following previously developed sites should
be considered:
The former Arriva bus depot

Mrs Anna Duke TCAAP/ALLe_45 Yes Babies Castle, Arriva Bus Depot, All Saints Church
Mr Robert Sims TCAAP/ALLe_46 Yes The village centre Church - would be a good youth club facility.
The old bus deport - would make a logical extension to the Colonnade 'boutique" retail outlets & provide
additional parking. If the new outlets had the same "historical" Colonnade styling and reasonable council
shop rents/service charges it would encourage local enterprise, increase the range of shopping to
Hawkhurst's wealthy residential customer base and add further tourist attraction to the village.
Hawkhurst Castle on Cranbrook Road - would make a logical development for new residential dwellings for
the retired.
Mr Jeremy Towner TCAAP/ALLe_47 Yes Babies Castle and All Saints Church
Hawkhurst Castle
Mr David Kavanagh-Spall TCAAP/ALLe_54 Yes The church on the high street. Ideal for a village hall, perhaps big enough to be a village hall and provide
dwellings.
Mr Dickon Kindersley TCAAP/ALLe_56 Yes The Maidstone and District Bus Station needs to be retained for employment uses. The Spatial Strategy
states that the small rural towns are not intended to be a main focus for development but to be local hubs
for employment, retailing and services and that for employment there is a need to retain existing floorspace.
Policy RE3 states the need to provide for a range of sites and premises to be available for employment
purposes in sustainable locations. The loss of the Arriva bus station in Hawkhurst was a major loss to the
town of over 40 jobs and in order for Hawkhurst to remain a local hub, this sustainable site needs to be
retained for employment services. Core Policy 7 has a list of Key Employment Areas and the Hawkhurst
Bus Station needs to be added to this list, preferably designated as an ED4, being an Economic
Development Allocation Site. This is necessary as there are no other employment sites within the centre of
Hawkhurst of this size and potential. It is sustainable, it has the necessary infrastructure in place and it has
the long term potential to ensure that Hawkhurst remains a local employment hub providing a balanced mix
of housing and employment, rather than becoming a town of houses.
Mrs Sara Mason TCAAP/ALLe_57 Yes The old bus depot. It would best serve the bus drivers as returning to being a bus depot. they currently
have to spend a 3 hour break in the middle of the day sat on the back seat of a parked van with no access
to any facilities.
Mr N J Kennison-Cook TCAAP/ALLe_58 Yes There is the bus station, church and a number of other sites in the village which offer opportunity form
brown filed development.
Mrs Julia Clark TCAAP/ALLe_59 Yes The Bus station is a large vacant site which is sat empty, this could be an ideal plot for housing. Babies
Castle is also an extremely large vacant building. Why are these areas not being considered and precious
beautiful green land being built on?
There are lots of smaller villages around the area that could cope with a level of extra housing why not build
in these areas? Why plan to build more houses in an already very developed area like Hawkhurst. There is
a diverse range of housing in this area and a good thriving community, the infrastructure and community of
Hawkhurst cannot take anymore housing.
Mr David Budd TCAAP/ALLe_60 Yes Highgate Church Old Bus Station Babies Castle Springfield
Mrs Sharon Bates TCAAP/ALLe_61 Yes The church opposite Dunks Hall has been vacant for many years. Surely this is a prime site which could be
developed into housing or a village hall.
Hawkhurst Castle has also been an eyesore for many years - people living in a development here would be
able to access Staplehurst railway station without contributing to traffic congestion in the village centre.
