EMPTY TANK TRANSPORTATION REQUIREMENTS

The contractor shall ensure:
(a) Tank is empty (no tank shall be transported whilst containing free product).
(b) Tank is vented using approved vent fitted with 500 micron nominal aperture brass gauze. Tanks shall not be
transported whilst pressurised.
(c) All other openings are plugged to prevent the escape of vapour or entry of any source of ignition.
(d) Tank is marked with tank number and the common name of the product it contained, i.e. petrol, diesel,
kerosene, etc.
(e) Appropriate Class diamond is displayed, at least 40 cm x 40 cm in size. Warning to read: “Class 3 Flammable
Liquid, no smoking or naked light within 8 metres.”
(f) Tank to be labelled in accordance with the Code of Practice for the Design Installation and Operation of
Underground Petroleum Storage Systems, 1992, section 11.1.7.
(g) Spray paint on the tank and the site name it came from.
(h) Transport operator must carry New Zealand Hazardous Substances Dangerous Goods Declaration.
