03 - A Harvest Of Cherished Things<br />

9.30am - 5.00pm - <strong>Calne</strong> Baptist Church<br />

A Harvest Of Cherished Things is an exciting collaboration<br />

between <strong>Calne</strong> Artists <strong>and</strong> the congregation of <strong>Calne</strong> Baptist<br />

Church; an art installation of found objects of significance to<br />

members of both organisations - with explanations why!<br />

04 - Organ Recital: The Iron Voice<br />

12.15pm - St Mary’s Church<br />

Admission £3 (Friends Free)<br />

Gareth Bennett has been playing the organ since he was five<br />

years old <strong>and</strong> has held positions at many parish churches.<br />

His recital will be a tour of St Mary’s famous four-manual<br />

Conacher organ with music from Bach to the present day.<br />

05 - Afternoon Talk: Master of Glass<br />

2.00pm - St Peter’s Church, Blackl<strong>and</strong><br />

Admission Free, with refreshments afterwards.<br />

Mac McHugh from Great Panes, Chippenham, discusses the<br />

work of Charles Kempe (1837-1907) whose windows can still<br />

be seen in many Parish Churches across the country <strong>and</strong> in<br />

Gloucester <strong>and</strong> York Cathedrals.<br />

06 - <strong>Calne</strong> Choral Society<br />

7.30pm - The John Bentley School Hall<br />

Admission £10 (£8 Friends)<br />

<strong>Calne</strong> Choral perform works from the 19th & 20th century<br />

which truly represent the great British choral society<br />

tradition. Mendelssohn’s Hymn of Praise is partnered with<br />

the wonderful Serenade to <strong>Music</strong> by Vaughan Williams. The<br />

Serenade, not heard in <strong>Calne</strong> since 1982, is rarely performed<br />

by local choirs due to its full <strong>and</strong> rich scoring. The choir has<br />

a growing reputation for joyous <strong>and</strong> lively performances<br />

which will guarantee excitement <strong>and</strong> bring a real sense of<br />

occasion to this major <strong>Festival</strong> event.<br />

07 - Boogie <strong>and</strong> Blues<br />

8.00pm - Marden House<br />

Admission £8 (£6 Friends)<br />

A lively <strong>and</strong> entertaining evening of piano <strong>and</strong> singing from<br />

Julian “Fingers” Phillips <strong>and</strong> entourage of the UK Boogie<br />

Woogie Club. Originating from Texas, with its fast rolling<br />

bass, Boogie Woogie gives the music an undercurrent of<br />

tremendous power. Power piano playing at its best! In this<br />

concert, two pianos will really rock. Julian Phillips is one<br />

of the leading champions of this type of music, <strong>and</strong> is well<br />

known throughout the south of Engl<strong>and</strong>.<br />

08 - <strong>Festival</strong> Service<br />

10.45am - <strong>Calne</strong> Baptist Church, Castle Street<br />

The theme of this service will be ‘A Harvest of…’ thanking<br />

God for our memories, gifts <strong>and</strong> talents <strong>and</strong> concluding<br />

with communion. It will be attended by the Mayor <strong>and</strong><br />

Councillors. All are welcome.<br />

The service will relate to the Art Installation, 6th Oct, ‘A<br />

Harvest of cherished things’ (Event 3).<br />

09 - Film: ‘The Priest of Love’<br />

Miles, the feature film on<br />

the life of D.H.Lawrence<br />

who eloped to Italy with Mrs<br />

Frieda Weekley exactly 100<br />

years ago. From this moment,<br />

the film demonstrates the<br />

extraordinary lives this brave<br />

writer <strong>and</strong> remarkable woman<br />

shared together. Filmed in the<br />

locations where the Lawrence’s<br />

lived; Mexico, Italy, France,<br />

Cornwall <strong>and</strong> Nottingham.<br />

Please note this is a Cert 15 film.<br />

Starring Ian McKellen, Janet Suzman, Ava Gardner, Penelope<br />

10 - The Lindsay Howard Academy of<br />

Dance<br />

4.00pm - The John Bentley School Hall<br />

Admission £4 (£2 Friends)<br />

Tea will be served during the interval<br />

A number of students from The Lindsay Howard Academy of<br />

Dance will have attended a Summer School with the theme<br />

‘Dancing Around The World’. The Summer School will result<br />

in a mini show featuring several different dance styles to be<br />

performed alongside a showcase of all <strong>Calne</strong> Class Students<br />

<strong>and</strong> Academy Teams. If you would like more information on<br />
